Its all well and good saying this is "a new premium channel" but C5/Viacom could do with sorting out their SD picture quality. 5star is soft, blurry picture, constantly pixelating on scene changes, fast moving images, it's just a joke.

+1 channels are even worse! I only watch C5HD now and try to avoid their SD channels.

Quest and UKTV have improved their SD picture to full SD recently. C5 need to do the same.
I thought/was hoping when Viacom bought them, some C5 channels would move off their over full transponder onto a Viacom one, but no....nothing has changed?!?!

I think its time Sky insist on SD picture standards and force broadcasters to up their game. Oh dont tell me 5star/spike etc SD on satellite fall within skys picture quality standards.? Rolling Eyes

I'm not sure Sky enforces picture standards and why would they... how could they regulate the quality of all the different companies that broadcast on satellite?

Sky do enforce minimum standards for HD channels, but not SD.

Research consistently shows that viewers want channel choice rather than picture quality. Blame them! Razz

That makes sense because having rubbish SD picture means you're more likely going to buy a HD TV and a more expensive package to include more HD channels.

Anything to rattle more money out of people. Rolling Eyes

Did Sky themselves not reduce the resolution of some of their SD channels when they launched HD variants? Or was that an urban myth?

A trailer for a film being shown over Chrimbo had a new style end board. Is this just for their Christmas presentation or a refresh of their on screen look?

If it's the one I've seen (for an Agatha Christie film I think), it's in the style that was used for '8 days that made Rome" earlier this year. It's not a Christmas thing anyway.

It's been used for a few programmes over the past few months, I like that style, though it does look a little inconsistent.

I do wish they'd have ended Christmas trailers with the 'Christmas with the trimmings' tag line, to cement it and also flow nicely into the ident.

When did the logo-only idents start airing on 5Star? (They're like extended bumpers.) I've not seen them before.

Im sure I check out 5star within the last month ( maybe around the time Early december to see if any xmas pres was around) and there were still using the live action idents.
