I always watch in HD because I don't like the way they stretch 4:3 shows on Channel 4 SD.
On what platform do they do that? On SD satellite, The Simpsons is always broadcast correctly apart from the first part of the episode last night.
Thinking about it, it would probably only be people watching on 4:3 screens such as myself that would have noticed the problem yesterday. People watching on a correctly set up 16:9 screen would have got black bars at the side of the picture that were part of the broadcast whereas normally they should get black bars on the side of the picture that are generated locally by the box or television. Apart from possibly a slightly softer picture, they wouldn't have seen any difference.

As it should on all platforms (apart from the 16:9 episodes which Channel 4 haven't got to yet).
The Simpsons on C4 SD is always stretched for me with no black bars (Sky+ HD box).
That's your tellys fault sadly not accepting the 4:3 flag on HDMI, its annoyance we all have to deal with if you have SKY HD. Lucky I have setup a one click button to go between 4:3 and 16:9 on my Harmony remote.

That was good tonight the announcer said The Simpsons and then said yep I've dropped the ball, I could have thought of something else to call it but I couldn't be bothered really
