There's no real need for that. Even 26 years ago, Westcountry had their playout suite at HTV Cardiff, but the CA still sat in Plymouth.

I suspect in years to come the BBC Nations will be forced to adopt a similar scheme

It doesn't matter technically whether the announcer's booth is 20ft away, or 200 miles.

Didn't C4 initially have their CA still at Horseferry Road, even though Playout had moved to Red Bee/Ericsson at the Broadcast Centre?

Hopefully more successfully than when Tyne-Tees pres moved to Leeds but the announcer stayed in Newcastle!

Filming for Gogglebox is done over two days. The contributors are shows a selection of shows/clips for them to comment on. Nothing is filmed as live - as in they are not watching the X Factor when we are and their reaction being recorded.

They must film on a Wednesday and Thursday, as the show airs 9pm Friday, so editing must be tough for the producers. Especially if there is a big news event.

It's a very quick turnaround. Editing it is done sometimes as close as up until an hour before broadcast at times and they have to deliver it by bike to get through the traffic.

Yep and in these days where connectivity is easier and cheaper than ever it shouldn't be technically too much of an issue to do it from anywhere.

That said both ITV in Leeds and C4's playout in London are both Red Bee now so there could be some sort of synergy there

The last I had heard from friends at ITV that Red Bee/ITV were considering moving northern playout from Leeds to their new facility at MediaCityUK. The idea being that they would not only save the cost of running two facilities, they could also save on connectivity costs as the MCUK facility is conveniently in the same building as ITV Granada.


Not sure if they're still considering a move, it was definitely only an idea when I heard it, but if they are it would be reasonable to assume that Leeds might not be around for much longer.

I would be very surprised if they're still doing physical delivery by bike, although that may have once been the case. If it's edited too close to broadcast to send the show via FTP, usually they now require a circuit to be booked between the post production facility and Red Bee, and for the show to be played over the circuit to them as if it was a live show.

But they're on the same site as ITV Yorkshire so they'd save on circuits from Salford but have to pay more for ones from Leeds!


I don't know how big their place in MediaCity is but it makes sense to move everything there

Did anyone catch the breakdown on C4 this morning, 10.40am?
It was during Sunday Brunch.
