Can we PLEASE get rid of the April Fool

I agree with Nick here, an April Fool is fine when it's a subtle, clever one off joke. Even better if it deceives the reader into falling for it.

But when a "joke" changes the functionality of the forum I think it's a step too far and simply becomes an annoyance.

I obviously have no sense of humour, so shoot me.

Please don't take this as an attack on yourself Mr Harvey, but I think this thread is kind of the result expected. As I've always understood it, the point of April Fool's day is to make someone look a fool, usually by convincing them something has happened, only to suddenly turn round and tell them it hasn't. I can't see any way that changing the swearfilter would fall into that category as it's so obvious what's going on, hence I can only conclude the intention is to make someone look foolish by having them starting a thread complaining about it. Unless you want to bite, it's probably best just to come back in a few hours when it's all over.

As an aside here, this whole thing does make me wonder one little thing. If someone were to have to have 2 images stored on their server, one named 'i t v.jpg' (without spaces of course) containing their latest mock creation and one name 'bbc.jpg' containing nude photos of certain News 24 presenters (no, this is *not* my server, but I'm convinced someone on here will have done it Laughing ) who would be held accountable when the latter picture suddenly began appearing in the Mock forum. Confused:

(Edit: Sorry for repeating some of what you said SE, but your post wasn't there when I started Embarassed )

ITV ITV

Oh yes, this is REAL mature. Like most people here, I don't find it funny. It's not even from my point of view an April fool, it's a dose of immaturnity.

But you thought you would type it out just for good measure?

April Fool's Day has been around for years and will no doubt continue for many more years. So fully expect this annoyance or jolity (depending how it affects you) to appear again. It's like any other significant (or non-significant) date in the diary, it will keep coming round every 365 days!

Has The Sun newspaper pulled off the BIGGEST April Fool's joke concerning the William girlfriend story?

I certainly hope so as all the news channels are also 'joining in' on the story and making it more believeable by covering it quite thoroughly!

I'd love to point out the number of times the moderation has been chastised for not having a sense of humour, but I'm really above that.

And this is showing a sense of humour? How embarassing.

Clearly whoever thought this up does not know what an April fool is. An April fool, is, as someone said, fooling people into thinking something is real- alay cleverly done by the media with newspaprs, Tv news & websites makign up news stories, and as way cleverly done on another thread- a new ITV logo looking as if it was a mediaguardian article- even thoutgh it was a Real Verdict spoof. Having it to that when people type "ITV" it changes to "BBC" does not fall into this category.
