Arguably 1080p50 HDR is a much bigger improvement than 2160p50 SDR. Better pixels are better than more pixels IMO.

The whole thing right now seems to be about increasing resolution but not doing much with other elements and we're not really getting the improvements we could. The ridiculous almost religious adherance to 24/25/30p and the large amounts of motion blur that come with it (unless you want it to be pretty unwatchably jerky anyway) for a start. Sharp fast movement at higher framrates at a lower resolution will likely look better than lots of motion blur on low framerates at a higher resolution.

I should point out that Ultra HD isn't 25/30p, it's 50/60p. Admittedly this is similar to SD and HD, which after (good) deinterlacing effectively doubles in rate to 50/60fps, but with Ultra HD we no longer have to worry about interlacing.

For live action content I agree higher frame rates are better (film/drama is a different matter), but I personally don't feel like I gain much from going higher than what we have now. For me there is a more noticeable increase in quality by moving to HDR Ultra HD than there is higher frame rates.

The YouTube stream is carrying the "BT Sport 4K UHD" DOG for anyone wondering.

This came up last year too - YouTube's live encoding specifies 30 or 60fps - so they're feeding it a 2160p50 feed (ie the 4K channel) and something somewhere is doing some frame rate conversion.
Which is frustrating.

How's it looking in the TV app?

I suspect the only way of ensuring decent quality if that's the case is to provide the YouTube encoders with a 2160p60 feed properly frame rate converted upstream of YouTube. However I suspect UHD Alchemist PhCs are not abundant?

I think Grass Valley may now have a solution that's a bit cheaper than "buy four HD Alchemists", but we don't yet have it. (or, for that matter, four Alchemists)

Given the 'new' BT circle branding is being used to advertise tomorrow's Champions League game on BT Sport, in the printed media today..

With it also being the final of the Gallagher Rugby Union season and this little game in Madrid - will BT Sport go full rebrand tomorrow?

I'm going to go with 'probably not'.
