Getting back on topic ....

Another French Ligue1 fixture gets a 4K outing on Sunday Evening.

Marseilles - Monaco at 1945.

We have our fingers crossed that it won't be interlaced this time.

Certainly is better than the last run out.

With Mark Pougatch on ITV rugby duty today, BT Sport Score is today being presented solo by Jules Breach. I think Matt Smith has deputised in the past.

BT Sport launch a 1080p/50fps App for their Sports content on AppleTV partnering the general BTTV one. Looks gorgeous too, makes NOWTV look very very sick in comparison.

Long overdue them launching a TV app - wonder if it'll end up on Now TV as part of their new deal.

For live content, or recorded stuff that was produced in UHD?

Live ... understand it's escaped the tvOS store a tad early too.

There's also apps for Samsung TVs and XBox, with UHD on the way.

Given the HD channels are originated as 1080i25, there must be some heavy-duty deinterlacing going in the encoders.

You mean 1080i50 ? ( 50 fields/sec interlaced)

However, some acquisition of HD content is now done as 3G HD ( aka 1080p50) because it allows easy upscaling to UHD ( where interlace modes don’t exist)

1080i25 is also a correct way to describe it, using the frame rather than field rate.

Yes. There seems to be mixed currency now. I'm sure the number after the i or p refers to fields if preceded by an i, or frames if preceded by a p ?

More often than not I've seen it written as Markymark describes, using the fields if it's interlaced and frames if it's progressive, so in this instance it would be 1080i50. However the EBU's standard documents and the DPP technical specifications use 1080i25. So as Markymark says it's mixed currency depending on who you speak to and their preference.
