Didn’t realise BBC Scotland was going to be available to the whole country. I’m in the BBC south region and on my virgin media guide on channel 162 is BBC Scotland HD. Nice to see it added
If you haven't seen it already, Still Game is well worth a watch. You might want to start with the older series, though, which are all on Netflix.

Here in NI too.
I reckon it'll be the new UTV Ireland. Good idea on paper but not viable beyond a few years. There is a lot of disappointment that Scotland hasn't got its own version of the 6 o clock news so to instead offer something at 9pm when all the good dramas are on is a bit rubbish. It all seems to be built around the news programme...

Or the new BBC Alba. It's there for BBC politics not ratings

'We demand a full hour of Scottish-centric current affairs... oh hang on, we'll have to miss Luther? On second thoughts...'
Or am I being unduly sceptical?

Unlike UTV Ireland, however, it doesn’t have to be commercially viable.
UTV Ireland killed UTV's independence and forced them to sell up to ITV, at least no matter how bad it does, BBC Scotland won't do anything like that.

When I used UTV Ireland as an example here I wasn't talking about comparing itv with BBC. It was more in the sense of scheduling being centred around a strong local news programme.
There was really no point to UTV Ireland, just pure money grabbing on the part of UTV. UTV have always had a strong penetration into the Irish republic, via spillover and cable television - so they thought they could make a lot of money by buying up ITV programming and launching their own channel.
The problem was, no one in Ireland wanted UTV Ireland. TV3 was doing the right job, providing a large chunk of ITV programming, and it felt that TV3 actually cared about the ITV programming they aired. UTV Ireland were doing the opposite.
This, along with the dire home produced programming caused the channel to sink faster than the Titanic.
