It is / would be nice as a background for pointers or similar elements - nice to have something other than the usual 'flat' red covering everything... But as an ident, I agree, it cheapens the look.

If they really wanted to show off the sequence in isolation, it would have been better to use it as a post-ident, pre-programme sting.

I have to admit after the ITV rebrand that it looks brighter and fresher than BBC One. It's starting to look a bit stale.

I don't really understand what ITV's idents are trying to say! They're very random. The "Love 2013" ident would actually be good as a series of idents if they removed the "Love 2013" wording. It is just a marketing ploy but it does at least link in with the new programming trails.

Because lo-fi effects haven't gone out of fashion in music production yet - or maybe the composer was just overly fond of them, despite the incongruity.

I'm not a fan of the idents either, really. But the presentation around it such as the trails and the fluency between them just seems a lot brighter and fresher than it does on the other side.

The love 2012 menus with the music really cheer BBC1 up in between the shows, but as an ident it is odd.

Shame. I really enjoyed that post.

As did I... Not least because my original reply now makes little sense in the flow of the discussion!
