Out of context that seems odd but I think using the BBC One logo without a red background is permissible.

I am not so sure - the guidelines refer to the BBC One box for all off air activity... that logo should only be used on air! Interesting to see how long it lasts for...

Some members here have taken the BBC branding guidelines far more seriously (too seriously) than the BBC themselves ever would. Remember - they are " guidelines " - not the law!

Technically now the BBC One logo doesn't really have a background except on trailer endboards - so they could use whatever colour they bloomin' well like!

What I've never understood is why they have to do just 8 idents. I don't see why it's such a significant number. The balloons managed with far more when it first came out I'm sure. If a £500,00 cost can stretch to over 8 idents, how can more money produce fewer idents?

I was thinking about this whilst daydreaming the other day. My theory was that with the balloon idents, the balloon itself provided a very distinctive, recognisable, unifying symbol for all of the idents. So no matter where it was flying, it was always obvious right from the start of the ident that it was signifying BBC One. Even if they had thousands of balloon idents, you'd know what it was straight away.

With the circle idents, until the sequence resolves, and the logo appears, they could really be anything, and so they'll rely on each one individually becoming familiar in order create the brand. If there were too many, this would be more difficult.

Either that, or they couldn't be arsed making lots this time.

Is there any word of when we may see a new ident?

I'm sure they said there will be 16 overall and I'm surprised they didn't start a new one after Christmas.

I never really liked them introducing one ident every few months with the balloon.

It wouldn't be so bad if they were introduced in sets of three or four, or perhaps these ones just run for a year or two and then a completly new set, but in the same theme, are introduced.

Apparently BBC One Wales have a special St Davids Day ident today - bunch of Daffodils in a circle floating in water with rain drops falling. Any caps??! Very Happy
