Doesn't seem premature at all. In order to prepare for the Election Programme they have to build the set, do all the technical configuration and rehearsals.

Most of B it is a standing set, I don't see why some tinkering (putting back the big desk and LED screen) would take that long unless they were intending to use it from this week.

Because you need time to rehearse and integrate the technology. There's all the stuff to integrate the external feeds, template building, presumable there's a new graphics package with Reith, and you need time to make sure everything is working as you intend.

With B being in use so much, it also limits the time to do large or noisy bits of work, I'm not surprised they had to wait until a weekend to actually get the desk in.

This will also be a much higher profile election, organised at much shorter notice, than the previous election coverage covered from B, and they're used to having their own studio to themselves for weeks on these events.

Seems like that post-election programme will inform us how ITV/STV will handle the 9:25am junction when it's in the middle of a program ahead of Lorraine airing from 9am - 10am in the new year.

Why are people still wondering and obsessing about this? It has happened on numerous occasions and there's no issue or mystery as to what happens

Could they have found a worse photo of Katherine Ryan?

And all that effort could be for nothing if the high court rules in favour of the Lib Dems.

Quote:
Judges said the case was not suitable for judicial review.

Lord Justice Davis and Mr Justice Warby said ITV was not carrying out a "public function" with the debate, so the challenge was dismissed.

However, the parties had the right to complain to Ofcom about the programme after it had been broadcast, they said.

Personally I think common sense has prevailed with the judges outcome. If the parties complain to OFCOM after broadcast depending on the complaints I suspect ITV (and BBC) would probably be cleared, however it might result in new guidelines being drawn up by OFCOM for future election coverage/debates.

Again it comes down to received wisdom. Corbyn and Johnson are the only viable candidates for Prime Minister so therefore ITV News should focus on them

Doesn't that make it a self fulfilling prophecy? If you tell people it's a two horse race often enough they start to believe it.

I really can't see on what legitimate grounds they can exclude the other main parties and claim to be maintaining the required level of balance.

Any word on if STV will be showing the debate given that the party dynamics are so different in Scotland?

Well not necessarily no. If a third or even fourth possibility came up eg Swinson or Farage then of course there would be the necessary changes made but right now that doesn't look likely (never say never though)
