Sky News plans to axe business bulletins

Six jobs to go.

IKL to stay.

Arguably this is a reason why BBC needs to keep it's news channel running in something near it's current form. It feels that the BBC cuts instead of helping Sky to compete is having the opposite effect, and allowing them to have a race to the bottom.

Yet more cutbacks, starting to wonder where they will end.

If they carry on like this Sky News is going to be a shadow of it's former self soon.

Just wait till they move in to the box.

Completely agree. That said, however, SKY seems too structured recently; every time I tune in for breaking news they seem to throw to SKY Sports.

I think Sky are making the right move here. For what they cover, the biz bulletins just seem like filler. Any newsworthy story would make the news anyway.

They should reduce Sports bulletins, too.

A massive shame, although since Biz bulletins moved back to Osterley, they feel tagged on.

It's bad enough the NC biz bulletins are regularly shunted for breaking news.

Exactly, SKY covers big breaking news better than anyone IMO-- I miss the 'First for breaking news' days when they would throw out their entire schedule. It still happens during the day on weekdays, but nights and weekends they go for the rolling news.

I hate sports bulletins, if I wanted sports I would watch the sports news channel.

Sky's sports bulletins also cross promote Sky Sports. The business bulletins don't cross promote any other Sky brand.

It's interesting to see that Sky News Australia has expanded in recent years, a dedicated business channel and they introduced weather presenters, where Sky UK is basically reversing.

I still think Sky News can benefit from streamlining, and concentrating their efforts. There did seem to be a sense back in 2005 that Sky News had become an operation bigger than what it actually was.

Sky are getting worse with these adverts, cutting people off mid sentence.
