As far as I know, Matt Barbet and Sian Welby are freelance. Barbet has his other job with The Cycling Show on ITV4 in addition to 5 News and The Saturday Show.
Welby also works on Eurosport and did some online pres for ESPN during the Rugby World Cup.
Back to Sian Williams and worth noting that Kirsty Young has now given up Crimewatch, which Sian had covered on a number of occassions and if she hadn't moved to C5 she'd probably be the prime candidate to replace her. Exclusivity isn't as important as it once was but can't see the two roles really being compatable.
I seem to remember Catherine Jones and even Ruth Liptrot have covered bulletins during the Sky era, so I won't be surprised if at least every senior correspondent gets a go before Christmas.
And surprise surprise, we have Catherine Jones tonight, and presumably for the rest of the week.
I'm surprised they've not given the program a bit of a revamp with Sian arriving - it looks like the same slightly-odd looking virtual studio.
I think they will wait until Channel 5 gets rebranded before that happens (if it happens of course...)
Haven't people here been expecting that for 18 months or so since Viacom took over. Indeed although they changed the trailer style slightly following the takeover this must be the longest running ident set C5 has had - and one of the best to be fair. The logo works well on screen - it's just in print it's awful.

Longest running and most boring now. They weren't particularly great when they started, they were okay and did the job reasonably well, but to my mind, they got boring a long time ago, and now they're beyond tired. It's long past time that the look was either completely refreshed, keeping the same logo and style but just some new idents, or completely revamped, new look, new logo, new idents, complete new package.

To be fair I think BBC One and Two are in more of a desperate need of an ident/pres refresh than Channel 5 at the moment. But that's a conversation for another thread.
I'm not expecting anything special tomorrow. Sian will just do the same job as Emma Crosby did last year with a bulletin that has no identity editorially.

This is exactly the problem. 5 News needs to go back to its roots and look at how they did things in the 90s. Since then it's just been on a downward spiral of blandness. It desperately needs an edge of some kind to give their bulletins some distinction.
