What is referendum breakfast- Video?

Should point out there have been a number of precedents nationally.

Princess Diana funeral - opt to ITN at 8:30am
Football & Rugby World Cups 2002/3 where the time difference caused breakfast time kick offs.
Royal Wedding 2011 - opt to ITN at 8:30am

Didn't GMTV finish early on weekends when an F1 race was on?

It's an extended BBC Scotland opt out at the top of the hour on Breakfast, lasts about 15 minutes. It's on every day until the vote.

Or started late. I seem to remember once an extended GMTV on a Saturday to compensate for a shorter or nonexistent one on Sunday, with Saturday's qualifying on ITV 3.

Referendum Breakfast are opting in and out of Breakfast using the 1993 BBC Breakfast News music.

It was amazing to hear it! Was played over a few morning shots of the Clyde in Glasgow which then formed up into the now-usual "folded bit of paper" Scotland Decides logo. I think it was more the 1989 version though without the electric guitar.

I think this 15 minute Referendum Breakfast opt is only at 07:55 going by what Catriona Shearer said. It lasted until about 08:12 and the opt back was smoothly timed, hitting Charlie saying "You're watching BBC Breakfast. Coming up...". Wonder if there was a BBC World style "long pause" before it... will have to do some recording.

Can't help a slight feeling of missing out on the UK top story though. The later opts I saw were the usual headline summaries. Sorry no caps, was half asleep still lying in bed.

Whenever they dropped part of GMTV for the Formula One they would always get the time back later, always on a Sunday, so there would be several Sundays in the autumn when they would run on until after 10am. Sometimes too if the F1 was taking up its entire duration GMTV might run from 9-11am instead.

There was an example of TVam running past its usual duration, back in 1985 when there was a plane crash at Manchester Airport. The Beeb and ITN were both stuck in traffic so had no pictures but TVam were already there, so rather than lose pictures at 9.25 they let them continue to around ten o'clock.

Bernard Ponsonby doing a special edition Scotland Tonight with Alex Salmond. Wouldn't it make sense for Border Scot to take ST leading up to the 18th? Or would ITV spit the dummy out the pram?

Great to hear that music is getting an (albeit short lived) revival, I always thought it was a great theme - miss the orchestral BBC News themes from the 1980s and 1990s.

It's a bummer that Breakfast isn't put onto iPlayer as I would quite have liked to have watch it this morning...

Unfortunately it appears my dish has died since I switched to Virgin Media. I don't think there's a way to do this on the TIVO but I have YouView in the bedroom... any way of getting STV player on that?

Ah sorry it is the 1993 version - just not the 1993 opening. It actually sounds like a mix of the two. If there's a 1993 Opt Out then appears to be that - as it begins with that sort of sustaining loop sound, rather than going straight into the 93 close like the first file posted above.
