RTÉ News Now is now simulcasting on RTÉ One to show Liveline with Joe Duffy. This is showing live updates of the forecasted worsening heavy wintry conditions in Munster & Leinster from today until the rest of the week. This means that Home & Away & Neighbours may not be shown until later this evening after The Simpsons on RTÉ2.

A Status Red warning was announced from Met Eireann this morning for blizzard conditions in Munster & Leinster as a result of Storm Emma & the cold Siberian air mass known as 'The Beast from the East'. The National Emergency Co-ordination Centre in Dublin have also issued a warning today to everyone who is doing non essential work in these areas to be home & to remain indoors by 4pm tomorrow. Other areas like Connacht & Ulster will be put up for review until a further announcement is made later today.

RTE Jr is on DTT, Cable and Sky, so I hardly think the platform argument is a valid one either.

No this just seems to be a decision by government to make things difficult for RTE for no valid reason at all, and that is just plain old silly.

Although as we've seen here in the UK clearing the schedules of children's programmes just leaves channel with a clear schedule they don't know what to do with.

BBC1? Yeah, that has been a problem. ITV? Not so much, they've settled into a strong schedule that rates pretty well for them.

It took ITV a long time to fill the gap left by children's TV - probably 7-8 years really as it wasn't until Tipping Point became fixed at 4pm (in 2013) they really established themselves in the afternoon. They've still not really sorted out Saturday mornings - the Saturday Kitchen rip-offs just don't do it.

Dickinson's Real Deal had been in the 4pm slot before hand, and had done okay, but some of the other shows maybe hadn't done so well. But they had transitioned quite well out of CITV into daytime programming, but they had a real hit on their hands when Tipping Point premiered in 2012 as a substitute for The Chase. By contrast the only constant in BBC1's afternoon schedule has been Pointless at 5.15. The rest seem to be mix and match still, with nothing standing out

I think all in all, ITV have generally done better. Saturday Kitchen maybe rating okay for BBC1, but remember that was on BBC1 whilst CBBC had gotten relegated to BBC2. So you had both side by side for a while. ITV haven't had that kind of situation.

Given that she is presenting 6.1 from Washington tonight my guess is she was on a plane yesterday .
