Just a quickie thread........

Watched the movie last night and found it to be excellent. Lots of flashback clips to real newsflashes/reports/specials, and we managed to see the likes of Martyn Lewis (in tears), Nicholas Owen, Julia Somerville, Maxine Mahwhinney, Dermot Murnaghan, Ralitsa Vassileva....and a host of others.

There was quite a bit of ITN shown but one ITN anchor was difficult for me to identify. Long blond curly hair. Anyone else seen it and able to identify who it was?

Martyn Lews did a good job IMO - I remember being in India at the time and hearing those words "This is BBC Television from London."

Was Martyn Lewis really in tears? That sounds awfully unprofessional for a long-time newsreader.

He wasn't in tears at all, mebbes a bit emotional given the circumstances.

Death of Diana, Princess of Wales news bulletins.

It's a pity that it was a Granada production (the film), as it meant they virtually ignored the BBC's coverage. How could you make a film about the events of that week and only include one comment from Jennie Bond?

It was later-on in the morning, just as Tony Blair had finished giving his now famous live "People's Princess" speech, we cut back to Martyn Lewis at BBC News and it was at that point he had difficulty speaking.

On the subject of Martyn Lewis, where is he these days anyway? He was very good on tv I thought.

As I recall Martyn decided television news concentrated too much on bad news and that there should be more good news. He likes writing books about cats and dogs.

Any excuse to post my clip of Armando Iannucci on Radio 1 in 1993 (bloody hell, 14 years ago) taking the mick after that famous Martyn Lewis quote:

I find it hard to remember Martyn Lewis fondly since he did all that religious rubbish a few years back.

What has that got to do with his ability as a newsreader?
