Whether there is a clause in ITV Daytime's contract with Studioworks that precludes them from "selling on" spare capacity under their buyout deal I don't know. If there were such a clause I'd expect there were also clauses that allow ITV Daytime to receive compensation when they agree to this excess capacity being sold on by Studioworks, and obviously they'd have to agree to it.

The studios are sub-let to ITV Studios rather than ITV Daytime. I may be wrong but I believe ITV Daytime is just a sub-brand of ITV Studios.

Generally speaking when it comes to sub-letting, you can insert a clause that enables you to supply the space to others (but not let it to them) via a Licence to Occupy. Sometimes the landlord adds a condition that this can only happen providing the other company is a part of the same group of companies (ie one under the same ownership).

Is it going out live or pre-recorded earlier in the evening?

I really can't see it being recorded. It'd need to be reactive to breaking press stories as Thursday's papers publish around 10pm. Otherwise it'd have egg on face.

Especially on Wednesday where they are big political stories which are front pages on all the papers - the Budget in November for example. The press reaction to them is crucial to the success or failure of a budget.

PMQs, The Budget, and all the best political news happens by Wednesday night, it will be live. The show will be over by midnight, and the studio team in TC2 will have 7/8 hours to get Lorraine's set ready, and it should be no problem, as TC2 manages to get the Loose Women set in and ready each weekday with less than 3 hours to get it done.

Let's see who the first Minister to resign at 9pm is just to piss off ITV. Probably just get an intro saying the show was recorded earlier in the evening.

I presume ITV will run a newflash when it breaks, and let it lead on the Ten?

Yes but it would be a bit odd for the big political show of the night not to reference it.

Recording seems a bad idea to me, but perhaps they’re concerned about the lateness and competing with Newsnight for guests?

Of course Question Time is recorded earlier,

You could have
“Should Chris Grayling resign? You there, the man in the blue pullover..”

After he’d already resigned during the Ten.

One bigger issue could be that their political editor is now likely unavailable for the primetime bulletins on the most high profile political day of the week.

Question Time has a reasonable excuse for being recorded. The presence of possible public disruption being the key one, and the impossible transport arrangements outside of the M25 for people trying to attend using any form of public transport another. For what is essentially 'professionals' talking together, i.e. Peston, neither of them apply. I'm disappointed to see this happening to what is essentially the only regular UK wide commercial PSB current affairs slot. The Twitter avenue is interesting, but with the lack of any appropriate channel to show it live a poor alternative.

Seems odd to hand the live showing to what, essentially, is a rival to ITV.

QT used to be live, I know on at least one occasion in the 80s it fell off air due to the evacuation of the venue following a bomb threat/hoax.
