Broadcasters and audiences. Competition drives better content.

Too true. It being let to plod along on it's own with no competition on a Wednesday night means it had very little scope or ambition to develop.

It also doesn't help having a big half hour news bulletin being directly before it now. Also said news bulletin also recaps what happened on the show with its presenter, before the show has even broadcast, which is quite a spoiler.

If ITV were really committed to this, they'd show it as live at 8pm so that it could be recapped on News at Ten later. But they're not.

They should have kept it at Sunday Mornings IMO to be part of its rival's blocks of programming and strive to get the headline interview. Now I barely watch it as most of the topics of conversation were already highlighted on News at Ten just minutes earlier.

I record it still and watch at another time. Funnily enough I have still not seen last week’s.

I used to watch it on Sunday again recorded after I cane back from Sunday Mass and I did prefer the Sunday Format.

I agree about trying a Live 8PM programme on Wednesday nights. It could be a revolution for ITV and get big names and make the headlines.

They won’t thought because a certain street in Weatherfield needs that extra episode.

There is bring serious and there is being commercially suicidal.

Who are the big names that they would get across 40 episodes a year? Question Time is a big show and some of the line ups they get these days are Z list.

To be fair to ITV, they kept Peston on Sunday for many series, they could have done away with it after one series, and it saw no sign of any ratings growth. How long do you keep something going that hardly anyone is watching just because a clip got featured on the news?

Let’s add a little perspective here, two special editions of ‘The Agenda’ aired just before the 2015 GE and achieved some of ITV’s lowest ever ratings in primetime (about 800k if I remember rightly). Politics shows rarely capture enough public interest to justify being shown in primetime. Peston before 10pm would not make commercial sense.

The suggestion that ITV should drop an episode of Coronation Street watched by 6.5 million viewers in exchange for a political show which would get 1.5 million viewers at best is ludicrous.

Peston will be live again tonight. Had to be really considering they could be major developments between 8pm and 10.40

What seemed perhaps a dud slot a couple of days ago seems a wise move tonight. Should have it's best ratings so far tonight.

Or maybe not now Jacob Rees Mogg is appearing after the break. That's the nation going to bed.

There was a (live?) trail for Peston in between the News at Ten and regional news on ITV tonight, making use of the studio stairs with a nice physical Peston logo on the wall. Apols if this has been noted previously.

Peston's move to ITV has been pretty disastrous really, hasn't it?

Almost along the lines of Chiles.

Not really. Robert has settled well into his role, at least Robert is in the air each week and also in the main ITV News bulletins, where is Mr Chiles lately?

Peston has taken a more senior position, now presents his own show and has also released a bestselling book.

Disastrous.
