Nicely styled titles by the looks of this:

Separate regional continuity from Midlands and NE&C into QoS. Midlands going straight into the ident from their debate, NE&C playing trails for Inside Out, a generic Local radio one and a Great North Run trail. I can't tell whether the two regions are in sync or not with the different delays on satellite.

Clean junction on BBC1 NE&C, with local trails for Inside Out, BBC Local Radio and the Great North Run with a NE&Cumbria ident into Question of Sport. Straight from the debate programme to an ident on a BBC1 Midlands, with the 'Midlands' text looking suspiciously Gill Sans. How do Birmingham manage to get the ident wrong?

By having virtually no skilled staff left and running with an apprentice in the gallery?

I wouldn't like to think so!
Just because something's local there's absolutely no reason why it should be substandard quality.
I hope this doesn't happen again.

to be honest a duff font isn't too bad, compared to this effort from Manchester a few years ago

It's a good question. In case it's not clear from the context, Leeds, Newcastle and Manchester all opted out for their separate Sports Awards shows then Manchester ran the rest of the night on timeshift.
I'm not sure why they didn't drop a programme and rejoin network earlier - maybe there just wasn't a convenient junction with a long film as part of the schedule, maybe they didn't want to drop Sign Zone programmes, or maybe somebody at Oxford Road just wanted to run the network for the evening just because they don't get chance often.
