They have a camera up on the celling but appart from that you'd be lucky for any high shots. That image actually gives the impression that the studio is bigger than it is.

As for music acts performing, I don't think they have ever done that on Meridian Tonight. They do have a balcony should they ever need to fit more than two guests in the studio Laughing

Camera is not on the ceiling - if you look very very carefully it's on the side wall just above the auto-cue girls position in the far corner.

Well yeah but you get the idea. A camera on the celling probably wouldn't provide a good shot unless you want a close up of Fred Dinenage's comb-over.

Whoops, cameraman (and camera) just fell over during a ob on South Today just now... didn't seem to do the camera much good...

At least provide a video, caps, the rough time in the show that it happened, the sub region that it happened on and/or what the OB was covering.

With some/all of the above, we could probably find it on itvlocal.tv

EDIT: Embarassed I thought you said Meridian. Some of the above can still be rescued though.

Haha, you can almost make out an "oh..sh.." and the sound of broken fixings.

Did Roger Johnson really say "Whoops-a-daisy..." !! Lol - that does his cred no good at all! Still, it's cleaner than what I'd have probably said...!

Something slightly odd going on this morning on BBC 1 South (Oxford) on DTT. After the 0830 opt the aspect ratio on network has reverted to 14:9 letterbox zoomed up to 16:9, ie slightly short fat people. It also looks like deocded PAL to me, dot crawl on the edge of the clock for for example, slightly washed out colours. Analogue seems ok. Problem in Southampton?

Well, the 0900 opt came and all became good. Very strange indeed.

All of Southampton's output has PAL footprint. AIUI although the studio kit is now SDI, there's still a PAL router at the end of the Tx chain. This feeds the DTT/D-Sat coders. The upgrade to 16:9 was all a bit cheapskate.

Georgie Palmer comes close though, although she'll never be as good as Gemma. I met her in Basingstoke for Children in Need, and she is really charming.

Meridian Tonight SE was bad again last night, they had trouble keeping up with the autocue and a few mic delays were noticeable. Sangeeta really is dreadful! I honestly don't care whether you know any songs by The Supremes..just get on with it.
