Well, you can achieve that route with it, but it's actually commonly known as the 'Sandbanks Chain Ferry'. The BBC national news are not using the correct pronunciation of Chesil Beach,
I'm glad Chris Evans (of all people) has flagged the comical incorrect pronunciation on his radio show this morning.

I heard that, but didn't it turn out that the story was about the village of Chiswell which is at one end of Chesil Beach?

Oh, maybe then, I didn't hear the whole show, though I do recall (I think) 'Chiswell Beach' being refereed to in the bulletins, which also roused Chris Evans' interest, unless he made the same mistake I might have done ?

They had a caller on who lived in Chiswell who explained it, but it was still a bit confusing.

The story on the news was about a flood warning siren going off in the town

And this thread isn't about the pronunciation of Chiswell either chaps...

There is something odd about that end shot but I have no idea what makes it odd. Hmmm...

Is it that the top bit of the rear and right hand fake newsrooms changes to red for no reason? I've always been puzzled by that.

I've never noticed anything like what you describe happening. I've just re-watched last night's close in the iPlayer, and I didn't notice any part of the set/backdrop change from not-red to red.

One thing I do often notice is that just before and after the weather forecast, the green colour of the weather CSO can clearly be seen reflected in the vertical metallic strip that separates the projection screen in the sofa half of the set from the printed newsroom backdrop to its left.

But during the rest of the programme, it looks utterly metallic grey/silver with no hint of green. Clearly, the CSO part of the set must be in-situ permanently, rather than brought on and off when required, so I don't know how this works.

During the post-weather closing chatter, the green reflection I speak of can usually be seen to fade out to nothing, like a green light being dimmed/switched off. The only explanation I can think of is that the CSO wall is something like a green LED lightbox, rather than a matt green curtain as I'd always assumed would be the case.

No the Weather Green Screen in the Studio is just some Green Panels and a Triangular bit of Green painted floor. The reason that the Green reflection fades out is that the lights are turned off as soon as the weather forecast is done thus the green panels are no longer reflecting light onto other parts of the set.

I think what Bail is saying is that the Backdrop of the Studio at the top of the newsroom it suddenly goes from off-white to red in the join. I think this is what he means.

There are two CSO areas in the studio, the first can be seen here, from this view from behind the main desk

That is used for the weather. The other one below, is used for the 8pm headlines, in the other corner.

That second one is also used for the Weather during the 1830 Bulletin, other bulletins use the one closer to the Desk.

Slight issue with the sub-regional sport opt on South Today (on Freeview at least).

Southampton studio sports presenter Tony Husband generically introduced the goals round-up as usual, at which point us viewers north of the Ridgeway should opt-out for a package focussing on the likes of Oxford Utd/MK Dons/Swindon Town.

However, we saw something like the first 10-seconds of the "south" goals round-up (e.g. Pompey/AFC Bournemouth/Reading Town), before abruptly crashing into our intended sub-opt package mid-sentence. Our package ended on time, with a seamless transition back to Tony Husband in the studio.

Tonight's obligatory Inside Out rehash during South Today unusually occurred during the Oxford sub-opt, as it was an Aylesbury-related story. I was half expecting that us Oxon/Bucks/Swindon viewers would end up seeing a 2nd Inside Out item after 6:40pm, but thankfully this wasn't the case.

Whether the Southampton edition ran a different Inside Out item before 6:40pm, I've no idea.

Does anyone know who the young blonde presenter was doing the Breakfast slot on South East Today this morning? I haven't seen her before, she was on at 7:55 a.m. but by the 8:25 a.m. bulletin she had been replaced by Juliette Parkin for some reason.
