The problem is, the Weymouth relay is used all up the coast, as far as Lyme Regis. In fact most of Lyme Regis rely on it, unable to see Stockland Hill. Lyme Regis is right on the Dorset/Devon border, so I don't think they'd take too kindly to BBC South/ITV Meridian

I think most homes in Lyme Regis use the Charmouth relay, not Weymouth. The Weymouth footprint doesn't go out much further than Abbotsbury & even here it is patchy. There are some detailed coverage maps on this link:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dorset/content/articles/2007/03/26/reception.pdf

South Today have reports from Lyme Regis occasionally, though usually poached from Spotlight & I can remember TVS used to have reports from as far as there at times too...
Also the BBC didn't seem to care about viewers in Worthing & Littlehampton who use Whitehawk Hill, who now get BBC South East today, despite them being well within the BBC South region... Rolling Eyes

Where's here ?

On the coast, in a line of sight condition, reception will be fine (albeit with the risk of tidal fading)

Lyme Regis use Weymouth. you can see the most aerials pointing towards the mast, that (if you have good eyesight Laughing ) you can see on the horizon. The Charmouth relay is tucked away out of view for most of the town. the hill that the golf course is on, blocks off anything from that direction. The BBC radio transmitter for the town is mounted on that hill. Charmouth has a very narrow beam too, which LR is off beam to. Weymouth has a near omni directional pattern, albeit a deep notch to the south to avoid interference to France.

The map on the BBC report is very pessimistic. I've got an IBA survey map of Weymouth, I'll try and dig it out and post a scan.

Every vertical polz aerail I've seen in the town is looking at Weymouth. Other choices are Beacon Hill (Torbay) and Stockland Hill (inland towards Axminster)

Why that font for the word 'itv'?!? Do they not have any vector images of the yellow ITV logo? Confused

Technically that should be the ITV plc 'Teal' Logo with Meridian in black or white

No, it shouldn't.

It should be ITV blue with no container end, like this:

MikeW, I think that the logo you have posted is actually precisely what DanielK was referring to. That's certainly what I thought he meant when I read his post. Yes, his choice of the word "teal" to describe the colour was inaccurate, but the fact that he referred to the "ITV plc" logo (and also put "teal" in quote marks) made it pretty clear what he was getting at, I feel. Smile

So, the "No, it shouldn't" pedantic knee-jerk response is perhaps a bit uncalled for? Confused

I was thinking along the lines of the old ITV News Group logos but on reflection that's what he meant! Sorry for being abrasive, Dan!

But the fact is it's gone on October 14th so what's the problem? It's only a sticker!

Sorry, but have I missed something? What's happening on the 14th of October?

Did anyone see and even better record the Saturday lunch time edition of South East Today. There was quite a messy ending. They seemed to have trouble playing out the video for Neil Bell's live sports round-up from the Olympic Stadium and then the recorded weather wouldn't play either. Caroline Feraday apologised and looked worried that she would have to fill for the duration of the missing weather report, however they did get the weather to play but by then it was too late and so they crashed back to Caroline Feraday who apologised and ended the programme. It was quite odd because she just said "Sorry and goodbye".

Turns out I caped this myself. Here it is...

The best part is Neil Bell laughing at the end.

I notice that Georgina Burnett presented the BBC South East weather yesterday, this is the first time I have seen her on BBC South East Today. What with Georgie Palmer doing the BBC South weather a couple of years ago (she has left, hasn't she?) this now makes two former Avago presenters who have gone on to present the weather for the BBC in the South [East]. Unless anyone knows of any more?

I meant even in Abbotsbury the Weymouth signal is patchy...

I guess they could always transmit both BBC South AND BBC South West (& ITV Meridian & ITV Westcountry) from the Weymouth TX, then people could choose what local news they watch, which I believe they did similarly with a TX in Goucester so people had the choice of West or Midlands news...

It just seems silly that to them Weymouth IS in their region & they seem to go there at the drop of a hat, yet unless people have Sky or Freesat most cannot see South Today anyway Rolling Eyes

Pehaps it's more to do with viewers in localities that are *definately* in the South Today region, but that are also "just down the road" from Weymouth & Portland, being potentially interested in what's going on there? (regardless of viewership of ST inside of Weymouth & Portland itself being perhaps negligable).

At the opposite end of the ST region, the editorial inclusion of Brighton & Hove is presumably justified on similar grounds?

Ah ha. I see. I found that IBA coverage map. It correlates with the BBC map in the link you provided, but covers a wider area. Lyme Regis is shown as served, by virtue of its south east facing bay

Ridge Hill, but only for ITV. There's an extra PSB 2 mux, that only carries ITV 1 West. The rest of the mux is empty. The Beeb have missed a huge opportunity by not coming aboard on that mux, and adding BBC 1 West.
I'm sure ITV would be glad to have their costs reduced by them doing so.
