If any changes could be made I would do the following:

- Leave the ITV Lunchtime News at 1:30pm but have regional news at 1:15pm beforehand.

- Move the late news to 11pm.

- Remove the catwalk thing, change all straps to blue, and update all regional studios to blue.

As impressive as the atrium is, I just don't think it works as the background for the ITV News studio.

It's just the atrium is all about lines and corners and is perfectly straight, while the ITV News studio is about curves and it round - and it just doesn't fit IMO.

If ITV used a studio like the BBC's which was box shape it be fine (and probably look alot like the C4 News studio I guess! Wink ) but with the curved panoramic background I don't think it works.

I think perhaps if they divided the screen up so a smaller part of it looked out on to the atrium it might look better, with what's left over being the "video wall".

I've suggested this many times before but basically turning the desk around 45 degrees or so so the RHS of the "theatre of news" has the newsroom/atrium backdrop, and then the left hand side is used as the "videowall" is what I basically mean, with a fake column seperating the two.

Also might make the studio look a bit bigger too with two clearly seperate presentation areas.

Only problem would be with the live interviews - not so much for single anchored programmes, but for duel - as they'd be no screen to Mary's right. They could key one in like they did on the old set, but I think just going back to the split screen would be fine for the Evening News, with the live links for the top stories done from the video wall anyway.

I remember when they used the atrium for the election coverage, everyone said they wished they would replace the squares and use that background instead, so they did, and now everyone is saying it is not suited to the type of studio. No wonder itv news has such an identity crisis, the viewers keep moving the goal posts. If anything they need to make the teal look evolve, i prefer that to the yellow. However if they are going to use blue for now on they should do something about the graphics, perhaps they could even make the walkway white again, it looked alot better back then.

I would definately have a seperate regional bulletin at lunchtimes. The 6 minute or so opt out at lunchtime isnt anywhere near long enough.

I would agree with

Local News: 12.20pm - 12.30
National News 12.30pm - 1pm

Yes like it used to be in the late 1990s.

Depends on the region I suppose - Wales probably have too much but with many other regions how ever short the bulletin half of them seem to be filled with crap features.

I see why you've suggested that, but I don't think it would look good with the studio. It would ruin the symmetricalness of it, and its curvature look.
