IS IT TIME FOR A CHANGE AGAIN.?. (February 2007)

I know we already have an Itv News thread and individual ones for the Regional News, but I thought this should be a Thread on its own.

Does anybody think a change is needed again with Itv News and Regional News.?.

It is always good to have a refresh every so often. I am wondering if the Format of Regional News should be changed. Start at 1755 with the Main Story and then from 1800 - 1815 other news. Headlines at 1815 followed by opt-out (Pan Regional) then 1830 Sport and a quirky iteam followed by Weather at 1825. Put the e-Mails on the seperate ITV Websites.

The National News, keep the same, but re-schedule the times of the News.

Lunchtime News 1230-1330 with more hard-hitting stories and 20 minutes Regional News.

Evening News 1730

Late News 2230

These are my ideas, what do you all think.?.

Are any changes on the way again.?.

Your idea sounds stupid and illogical, no disrespect. I'd like to see the graphics updated a bit but I doubt it will happen for a long time, they've not long introduced the new ones.

I agree with the above poster. Graphics would be nice, but starting the news at five to?

Bit random.

My eyes don't like it when you see the regional news rooms in teal and then it cuts back to the ITN studios and its bright blue.

All ITV news rooms used to match whereas now it looks terrible cutting between mis-matched newsrooms without that animation anymore!

I cant see them going to be 1 hour for the lunchtime news. Half an hour is enough but perhaps having it at 12.30pm again not 1.30pm. The other bulletins seem fine as they are.

Pretty much agree with the concensous (why do I always end up using words I can't spell!)

Lunchtime News should be back at 12.30pm and back to one host too. Incidently, anyone know how the change to 1.30pm affected both the ratings for the news and the programme before it?

Graphics haven't long changed though there is a bit of a mis-match of graphic now with the yellow straps, teal titles and astons and the blue studio - it's just a case of getting them sorted IMO.

Only change I think ITV News need to make is to the studio floor - the catwalk doesn't look right anymore and I think just carpeting to make it a bit "softer" might make alot of difference.

You want to start a major network news programme at 5.55pm with the top story and then kick in with "other news" at the top of the hour? Why?

There simply isn't enough news by lunchtime for an hour and twenty minutes of programming. Especially "hard-hitting" ones!

Who on earth is home by 5.30pm in the evening? And if they are, why would they sit down then to get their main news? Sorry mate, some crazy ideas there. Shocked

Maybe you are right, keep the Evening News at 1830. The 1 Hour Lunchtime News could have worked better if they didn't have enough adverts and weren't as Interactive as they were.

I strongly believe in the Public having their say, but maybe it could have been done differentlyon the National News.

I think a Generic Colour, probably blue needs to be done across the Regions. Still keep the City Backdrop because that shows Idnetity. I do think more Regional News should be put into the programmes.

Start Regional News at 1755 wit the first five minutes covering the top story. Then have fifthteen minutes of other important stories. The Headlines at 1815 followed by Pan Regional Stories. Then the Sport at 1820, Weather at 1825 (With Presenter in the Studio will space for Weaher Map). Finally re-cap and then quirky story if time.

I think this would work better and would be more professional.

Could we combine this thread with a discussion of politics?

I think the Lunchtime News would be good with half an hour of national news 1230-1300 and then ten minutes regional 1300-1310. I know it wouldn't really work with the schedule, but I think that would be best.

Keep the EN and 10:30 as they are.

I have to say that I would think the following would be good:

Lunchtime News at 12:00-1:00pm. Regional News at 1:30 for 10 minutes. Have more human interest stories like Sky Lunchtime Live & have 1 presenter. The day of double-headed news bulletins are over. It was evented in 1967 for the days when you needed variety and also for technical reasons. BBC News in 1999-2003 had only 1 presenter per bulletin. Remember? We are in 2007. Lets move on??

Evening News should stay at 6:30pm with regional news at 5:30. Again 1 presenter for the evening news. ITV1 aren't going to win the battle over Channel4 with the 5pm slot so lets have local news instead. UTV in Northern Ireland already do this why not the rest of the ITV Network?

10:30 bulletin should be renamed ITV Nightly News and keep the same format. Ditch the 5:30am Morning News as this is a waste of time as GMTV have a newshour at 6:00am. I think people could wait 30 minutes extra?

At the weekends ITV Weekend News should be changed. Have a proper 30 minute round-up say round 5:00pm, with 5 minute summaries at 12:30pm & 11:00pm. This would free up the schedule more.

As far as the set and graphics go they need to be brought into line with the current studio look. Make it look complete. A few tweaks thats all that is needed.

What does people think? Its a big change for ITV1 to do this but this will at least give some variety to people watching around the UK.?

Primetime
I think the Morning News, should be moved to 6-7am, but GMTV own that slot so it probably wouldn't happen. The Lunchtime News moved back to 12.30 - 13.00 with a single presenter (probably Katie Derham). Riegonal News on the lunchtime would be at 12.15 - 12.30 before the ITV Lunchtime News (Riegonal presenters introduce the National news, the same way as they do on the Evening programmes).

The Evening News would be kept the same with Mary and Mark. The news at 10.30 would be renamed ITV Nightly News, and would be presented by Alistar Stewart (staying on from ITV London Tonight at ITN).

The graphics would need to be sorted out, the studio flooring I think needs to be changed now, maybe get rid of the 'catwalk' the part where the presenters stand, but the part under the desk area would stay. The Regional studio's would have the same type of studio colour lighting. Also the virtual background on the National studio, needs to be made sharper I think (as it looks quite messy the current background).
