Darkening your skin to look like your favourite singer at a fancy dress party is not blackface. You may be wearing a black face, but not blackface. You're not enforcing a racial stereotype, you're dressing up as a specific person that happens to be black. There is a huge difference.

Oh, dear God... Suffice to say, I beg to differ in the strongest possible terms. It's never acceptable. Never.

Why?

Yes. Why?

It’s a genuine question. Why is it so offensive to you?

I’m not saying I don’t agree with you, but I want to understand why this act is so offensive that we can’t even question why it is so.

Yes actually, why is it not acceptable to dress up as your favourite singer? How is that playing to a racial stereotype and mocking a particular race?

I wonder if the end of Megan Kelly Today is the start of the end of the human interest news filler? We're seeing Victoria Derbyshire's show already being reduced to 60 minutes in the UK.

It may be better to schedule something else or another hour of standard Today instead of what was another car crash format.

That blacking up in 2018 is offensive doesn't need to be questioned. It's a given. A no brainer. Even if it's a homage to a famous singer. It's 2018. Just don't black up. Oh my actual God.

"Because it is" seems to be a bit of a weak justification for something you feel so strongly about.

As I said, I fully understand how offensive traditional blackface is because it plays to a racial stereotype. How is dressing up as Diana Ross in the same league?
