Like many English regions. The horrific Thomson 1707s (which Millbank and many English regions had, but TVC was never blighted with - but AIUI they aren't hugely different to the 1757s TVC used before they went Sony) can't go soon enough. Their pictures are horrific...

ah... so that's why BBC Look East looks like it's being played out from VHS??

Yep. Truly awful cameras. Millbank also had them until they went HD. Think Leeds and Tunbridge Wells are/were cursed with them too.

Leeds and TW PQ are equally as washed-out, especially when upscaled.

Don't know if they will have HSC-300s on Newsroom cameras though - they may be a cheaper brick-solution?

I don't think I've seen a regional DTL etc interview in HD that has been from anywhere other than a studio position ?

There's a few HD DTL positions now: Oxford, Bristol, Birmingham, and I think Leeds are. I presume Plymouth too, although I can't remember ever seeing it

Southampton has a HD DTL. One of the News Nationwide slots recently had Sally Taylor use it instead of the SD equipped South Today studio.

The Brum DTL is in a cupboard that used to be an editing suite, definitely not from a studio and certainly in HD, but the image choice is poor!

But they've had problems with image choice in the past in the Brum DTL

The Look East looked incredibly awful on BBC Afternoon Live’s Nationwide segment. Audio was very poor quality too which I hadn’t noticed before.

It would be great to see a Norwich one followed by Cambridge. I'm sure the difference will be noticeable.

It would be great to see the Norwich set, gallery and cameras upgraded. Wink

Just revisiting this topic. Does anyone know if any changes are afoot for the Look East Norwich studio/gallery this year? The set looks a complete mess, the rear projection screens are completely washed out/dirty making the weather look awful, the lighting is atrocious and the picture quality in recent months has become terribly distorted (bit like watching an old analogue TV channel that isn't tuned in properly). Kit's clearly failing and must be on its last legs.

This year, AFAIK - no. None of the existing English Regions galleries will have their apps updated, they might see monitor stacks replaced but nothing as far as cameras, VMs, sound desks, graphics are going to be updated.
There is (and has been for some time) a similar project to ViLoR being built by English Regions technology that will look to have a similar opt system to ITV and remote apparatus (not everything mind) to reduce overheads across the UK but that's not planned for the next few years. It's also one way they are looking to get the regions onto BBC One HD.
