Astronaut Chris Hadfield on NewsTalk Live this evening. He performed the song which he did in space, Ground Control to Major Tom, in the studio.
I also noticed on the 5 News at 5 credits that Cristina Nicolotti Squires has finally taken over as editor.
Ground Control to Major Tom is just the first lyric, the song is called Space Oddity.
Emma is referring the programme tonight as 'Channel 5 News'. I hope that this isn't a permanent change, possibly down to Cristina Nicolotti Squires. I liked the fact that it retained it's original name of '5 News' after the 2011 network change to 'Channel 5' from 'Five'. To be honest it seems as if they can't make their mind up. I've often seen it referred to as '5 News', 'Five News' or 'Channel 5 News' on social media. On twitter, they're '5News', and Facebook 'Channel 5 News'. Previously, promotions for 5 News Specials have called them 'Five News Specials'. It's really not the way to promote a strong brand and a national broadcaster, and especially ITN, should, and do, know better.

Quite a coincidence considering her husband (Geoff Hill) has just left as editor. I wonder if he wasn't allowed or was reluctant to put her on air while he was there. This is the second time that I have seen her on actually the last being an evening update last week. I couldn't quite work out if it was her before though.

Geoff Hill's had no issue using the services of his wife covering late bulletins on ITV News London and the occasional weekend ITV News lunchtime since becoming editor.
Emma Crosby live in Wraysbury tonight, covering the floods. Doesn't appear to be anyone at Channel 5 covering other stories (usually Polly Whitehouse) from the headline sequence.
Recently, some 5 News reporters have been introducing their reports in the studio by the 'screen' placed on the left 'wall' of the studio.
Over the past few weeks I have seen Sian Welby, Rebecca Barry and Simon Vigar doing this.
I'm not sure why as it just seems to put attention on that awful virtual wall which looks quite attrocious, even when compared to what it looked like this time last year.
