The Newsroom

Would I ever make a good newsreader? ;)

But, I'd love to one day present a news programme... After working my way up.

I never will though because I know there'll be more people who are far more successful than me.

I'm not a very confident person really and I don't like that about myself.

But if I did ever make it, I'd be very happy Smile

Setting up a YouTube channel and making regular videos can help boost your confidence, simply by getting used to it.

It thought you were very good. I didn't notice the accent!

The best way in is via regional tv and radio news stations, they will probably expect Broadcast Journalism degree level as a starting point although they sometimes take on trainees. No one simply "Presents" now, you'll need the multi-skilling companies require to keep costs down.

I would say really well done, you're very natural! And regional accents don't hold people back these days in my opinion, think about Huw Edwards!

You don't get many in the world of news though, particularly regional English accents even in regional news within their own region. It's probably why all the young journalists who start at say BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat all put on that 'news reporter voice'. Of course there should be regional accents in news, but we've all seen the stick Steph McGovern gets and her accent isn't even that strong, it's just northern. Imagine if a strong scouser turned up on the national news, the Daily Mail readers would have a fit.

To be honest I already think you were better than some of the readers I've seen on London Live (though admit I haven't been watching as much as many on here). The only thing I noticed is I could tell you were reading at times, but I'm sure with more experience that will pass. Good luck to you.

My 2 cents. I think you would be great. For what it's worth, here's what I think you need to do.

You need to show your skills at things other than reading . Anybody can read the news - admittedly some can read news better than others.

You need to impress with your reporting skills out in the field - interviewing, doing live crosses, talking without a script with only a moment's notice, doing original reporting. Get out and about on stories, and this is the sort of stuff you should also be posting. You need to be relentless too. Good luck!

I've decided to film a new video... this time, I've used an autocue app on my iPhone for the words, and i've tried going a bit slower...

What do you think? I've tried to lose the accent too but it's kinda still there...

EDIT: just to say... the drilling in the background at the start... it's the neighbours!!
