I find the comment completely unnecessary in the first place, even if she was planning on breaking the rules why did she need to tell us all?
Maybe trying to raise her profile for i’m a celebrity.

That was my first reaction to the story. A large chunk of ITV's primetime audience will have had no idea who she is until this.

Considering Victoria clarified the situation this morning, I'm not sure there's much else to discuss about the RT interview.

I'm not sure she's "clarified" anything - that word implies the original story was misinterpreted or something was taken out of context.

She's done a U Turn, admitted she was wrong and apologised.

That doesn't negate the original error of judgement and the potential impact on her ability to impartially report on and interview people accused of breaking the Covid rules.

Although I agree that there's little more to be said here at the moment, that's because everything's been said rather than because she has been forced to back track.

I do wonder if news organisations should show a bit more concern for the nations mental health when it comes to discussing things like this. For me asking about potential Christmas restrictions now is pointless considering we don't really know the restrictions we'll be under in a few days, never mind a few weeks, and articles and reports about potential restrictions may be causing unnecessary upset now, though on the flipside it may be felt some people need to be prepared for the worse possible outcome.

It's entirely unrealistic to expect Christmas to be a back to normal affair. The Scottish government, for example, have made that plain. That in itself is newsworthy - it's not been brought up out of the blue.

As far as i'm concerned, Christmas is happening Pandemic or not! It's the governments which are going to have to accept that people will break the Rule of Six on Christmas Day and take it into account.

Taking a step back after years of reminders (rightly) to not discuss/delve into presenter’s personal lives on here, there’s now been quite a few pages discussing Victoria Derbyshire’s lunch arrangements for a specific day.

(Though of course there’s a public health element to this and she would be breaking the rules on this by having 7 not 6 people had she gone ahead with her idea - though I somewhat doubt she’d have been the only one doing so but her error was to be so blatant in announcing it).

Next week in the RT Victoria tells us about the time she drove at 78 mph on the M4

Not all of us are quite so selfish as you.

The ONS weekly figures are widely reported and analysed and usually with the caveat that they present a clear picture of what is going on.

She’ll be hoping the speed cameras don’t have a “lovely film” of it

Discussing something that the person in question has personally announced (and the impact that has on their ability to perform their job as an impartial journalist) is very different to speculating about private matters.
