CNN International Adds New Shows from London, Abu Dhabi

CNN International, which reaches nearly 400 million households around the world, is launching two new evening programmes from its London bureau and adding another hour of programming from its Abu Dhabi production centre from 23 September.

Broadcasting live from CNN London weeknights at 10pm BST/11pm CET, The Brief with Bianca Nobilo will provide viewers with an incisive look at the most significant live events and stories of the last 24 hours. This dynamic new half-hour show will cover the UK and beyond, showcasing CNN’s distinctive and agenda-setting reporting.

At 11pm BST/12am CET Your World Today with Isa Soares and Cyril Vanier will break down the day’s most important and talked-about stories around the world, giving context around the news that dominated the day for viewers in EMEA, while informing viewers in Asia about the stories that will help shape theirs.

These new London-based shows follow the successful launch of CNN Newsroom with Max Foster, which airs weekdays at 1pm BST/2pm CET.

Additionally, CNN International is expanding Connect the World with Becky Anderson – the network’s flagship daily programme anchored live from CNN Abu Dhabi – by an hour to give viewers more in-depth interviews with the big names and key political figures shaping the Middle East. This now two-hour show will be anchored by Anderson, and air from 3pm–5pm BST/4pm–6pm CET.

CNN’s weekend lineup will also be enhanced with the addition of CNN Newsroom with Robyn Curnow and CNN Newsroom with Michael Holmes from CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta.

Mike McCarthy, SVP of Programming and General Manager, CNN International, said: “We are delighted to be launching these new shows – which will form a key part of our industry-leading European evening and Asia morning programming lineup – and renewing our commitment to the Middle East with the expansion of Connect the World. International coverage is at the core of what makes CNN unique, and we are committed to delivering first-class reporting to audiences around the world.”

I'm thrilled to see Bianca getting a daily show. She's the big discovery of CNN Brexit coverage and the future of the channel imo.

BUT, Michael and Amara and CNN Today getting axed??? This is a shocker. Michael moved to weekends. That is terrible, plus Amara is out of the schedule. Is she moving to domestic???

Would make more sense to have YWT as a European morning show and leave CNN Today as it was.

The new weekday schedule in CET:

06.00 CNN Newsroom (John Vause)
08.00 CNN Newsroom (Rosemary Church)
09.30 Taped show
10.00 Early Start
11.00 Amanpour
12.00 New Day
14.00 CNN Newsroom with Max Foster
14.30 World Sport
15.00 First Move with Julia Chatterly
16.00 Connect the World with Becky Anderson
18.00 The Express (Quest or whoever fills in)
18.30 Taped Show
19.00 Amanpour
20.00 Hala Gorani Tonight
21.00 Quest Means Business
22.00 The Lead with Jake Tapper
23.00 The Brief with Bianca Nobilo
23.30 World Sport
00.00 Your World Today (Cyril & Isa)
02.00 AC 360
03.00 Cuomo Prime Time
04.00 CNN Tonight
05.00 Amanpour

Delighted to see Bianca getting her own show as well. I’m glad to see Michael Holmes is staying at CNN even if he is moving to weekends. Maybe he’ll do some field reporting as well which he has done in the past. He’s one of my favorite CNN presenters. We’ll have to wait and see what happens to Amara Walker. We knew Cyril Vanier was getting a new show. We now know what it is.

Got to feel for Amara, Michael and Robyn - all of whom go from daily weekday shows to fill-in or weekends. Some of CNN's best presenters too. If only there were a few hours of simulcasts they could air instead of....

After saying not too long ago London had too many presenters, it now probably has too few since all the usual fill-ins (Isa, Max, Bianca) will now all have regular slots.

Very pleased though with some of the changes. Bianca has been terrific during the Brexit coverage, Cyril was underused in Atlanta and deserving of a daily slot and more Becky Anderson is no bad thing.

Good to see there will hopefully be some more weekend bulletins too which are sorely needed - at the moment there's barely enough bulletins for the current weekend crew so you'd assume with two new weekend presenters we'll have more weekend bulletins (unless one or two of the present crew are losing slots to make way for Robyn and Michael).

I would assume that Michael and Robyn will take over Linda's afternoon slot and the evening slot done by Zain Asher. Hope this means the late evening US Newsroom simulcasts are gone. All this presuming Natalie and George stay in the mornings.

Speaking of mornings, the weekdays need a revamp. Since they will be moving to Studio 7 soon (which now makes total sense) I hope they reunite John and Rosie and make a more coherent schedule (2 of them could do Mon-Thu with Nat and George on Friday - like it used to be).

BTW, CNN London is indeed moving to a brand new building very soon. Exciting times!

Wonder if there will be a hint of the lovely old YWT tune in the opening? Wishful thinking.....

Hope they are not going back to the World Report type of opening graphics again with these rotating circles as seen in this still.

Michael Holmes has updated his twitter page to say that he presents CNN Newsroom on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 4am, 6am and 7am GMT. Obviously that’ll be an hour later for BST. Seems like an awful time slot to me. I’ll never see him if he’s on that early.

That's Cyril's old shift. Not sure if there's a worse slot to go from a daily weekday one. Yikes....

A shame they couldn't slot some extra hours of international news in instead of replacing like-for-like. It's also very late to broadcast from London - the programmes will be watched more by viewers in Asia and the Americas - I can't say I really understand this scheduling.

Yikes. Cyril's old slot - the closest thing to a graveyard shift on CNNI.The days of Michael having both a weekday slot on CNNI and Domestic (with IDesk and Around the World) feel a long time ago now.

Him and Amara really have drawn the short straw with these changes. Made worse too when you see 1am-5am GMT and 9.30am-1pm are entirely international bulletin free on weekdays. Would it really have been that hard to give Michael and Amara slots in one of those gaps or *gasp* make the European morning Newsroom editions double-headed like they once were? Michael & Rosemary would be a great pairing.

Interesting that Robyn started on IDesk exactly 5 years ago, in September 2014 while Michael and Amara started on CNN Today in November 2014, almost 5 years ago.

Amara filled in on New Day this weekend, after appearing on Early Start few weeks ago. Seems like domestic fill ins could be her path....
