New Hampshire launched NH1 - this month using an impressive Devlin designed set. NH1 is the first and only 24 hour news channel for New Hampshire and is based in Concord this joining the field with mega rival NECN (New England Cable News owned by NBC)

One of their lead anchors is a friend of mine from my days living in Boston - I can tell you it's NOT a 24-hour news channel, as at present, it only has one 90-minute block of news from 5-6:30pm, so is therefore not a direct competitor to NECN.

CITY - 57 Toronto (Citytv/City) Here is the famous CityNews room. The current newsroom used by the perfectors of the set-less newscast. The news has the Yonge Dundas Square (think Picadilly/TimeSquare) as its backdrop. When the building was taken over by City a few years ago they blasted out the former windows and installed broadcast quality windows to help control the lighting issues. The newsroom has a banks of windows on both sides. City cleverly "cheats" the satellite/feeds wall in the rear of the news room by adding mirrors to the sides to make it look bigger than it is.

Since this pic were taken City has added a news wall to camera left and added additional logos to their front of the platform as show in the first pic.

WHDH 7 Boston (WSVN) The tabloid stations' new set update top anything they've ever done before. WSVN, the originator of local tabloid has a sister station in Boston WHDH. Well they recently updated their set and they added a video ribbon along the balcony across the back of set, making for some interesting viewing.

The screen and jib are used to toss to advert breaks and live tosses and feature packages. Yes its completely OTT, but I really think WHDH knows their audience and they have a style and they stick to it. It you want tabloid news, they are gonna serve it hot and sparkly. For a midday news, its amazing the studio resources they utilize. I know of larger markets that wouldnt use as many studio resources for their midday newscast. Having said that, WHDH and WSVN are pretty much the only stations in the country that produce local news this way. They pretty much stand out as far for the complexity/variety of their production values. While this might be possible for large organziations such as news channels. Its quite rare for other local stations with tabloid-style formats to do anything beside having locked down cameras and using few graphics. (Think SkyNews overnights) So for consistency, and pure OTT crazy, I always give Sunbeam (WSVN/WHDH owners) props. LOL

It seems like the total opposite of what Sky aimed for in 2010, they chose graphics in a 3D environment, with 'cameras' flying around. I do feel that this is much nicer, all I have a problem with is how strong the colours are and how they clash, other than that, no problem with it whatsoever.

Well considering WHDH-BOSTON/WSVN-MIAMI's trashy tabloid roots, i wouldnt expect any less. But even though its completely OTT and shiny, I marvel at how "polished" and well put together the newscasts are....considering, its in the vein of an unapologetic tabloid format. To me it just seems like they arent going to let any station top them in the lengths they go thru to present a story. But having said that both stations have pulled back (especially WSVN) from their hardcore tabloid format in mid-90s. Hard to imagine...but it used to be far worse and far bloodier...WSVN took the crown hands down. Often imitated, never duplicated. LOL
PS. By the way. yes that is their actual theme thundering away in that Youtube clip. Created for WSVN/WHDH by their in house composer, which is highly unusual.

Watching live now. OMG they just had breaking news. There are no words to describe what I just saw. It seems like the entire 2 story backwall of the studio activates and flashes in some form or fashion. LOL.

Not sure what this little nook is, as the weather centre is on the other side of the set.

Very nice, KNBC-ish IMO. Possibly an on-screen newsroom style area? Or a 'content-center' and WNBC called it.

Ugh. I found this on their website.
Quote:
Anchors will provide viewers active updates by using multiple touchscreens and will have access to a large interactive digital center dedicated to the collection and presentation of social media news content. The set contains several presentation areas that will provide anchors and reporters unique ways to present their stories.

So apparently its a social media centre. Yuck. So sick of stations overly pushing "social media" elements into their newscasts.
THey will also use this area for breaking news. Ehh. Interesting concept.

By the By this a Scripps TV station, surprised they didnt slap their logo somewhere on the set as they have done with the other new sets they've debuted recently.

New Meet The Press set is very Good Morning Britain

Featuring a mix of wood and metal elements, the set is a fresh look for NBC News. Contrasted to the previous set, the new design is warm and inviting with unique touches of custom artwork and Chuck Todd momentos.

There is something about this set that I dont really like. Im surprised its a ClickSpring design. I really dont like it. These desks are ok but I dont like their placement. I dont like the rectangular flag boxes and i dont like the memorabilia displays. I dont like the boards hanging from the ceiling. Im getting a corrugated metal vibe from the white paneled walls. I dont like this. Having said that , its does have NBC News absolutely brilliant lighting scheme. They simply have the best lighting for all their programs even their outside broadcasts always look good.
