Well not at Edinburgh, the stuff was given to you by the people at the reception desk.

Unfortunately I couldn't attend the BBC Tour event in Pembrokeshire as I had planned because it came down to a choice:

1. Pay £8.00 to get in to the Withybush showground and spend maybe 30 mins in a tent full of BBC ego's while a tropical storm lets loose above. (nothing much else interests me at the county show, apart from the BBC thing and pointing and laughing at Radio Pembrokeshire's caravan).

or

2. Stay warm and dry in bed with my female "buddy" watching Trisha on ITV2 all afternoon? Wink

Maybe the next time it comes to Wales or the Bristol area, I'll go.

Well life is full of choices, isn't it?

£8 with a chance of rain to have an interesting hands-on shot at what you talk about here, with professionals;

or

a hump and some daytime telly.

Uh huh.

And of course the 104 mile drive from Cardiff... Razz

Anyway, it's not that I couldn't be bothered, there were just circumstances beyond my control (if you understand me, Gavin) Wink

104 miles? I hadn't figured on that.

I'd have stayed in for a hump too. Although I must admit I think having Trisha on in the background would make me lose my stride.

As it were.

Well that reminds me of the BBC Mellinmum (bad spelling!!) Experience. I went to the one in belfast where i got a bag of stuff off them at the reception. I just lost it, it is either in my room or the back! 4 years have past and i still 4get!!!

At Birmingham you either got your bag from the guy from Five Live doing the commentary thing, or from Jane, Nik and Rob who were all wandering around the front handing them out at various times.

Definitely worth a go IMO!

I was second up on the Saturday morning, having just decided it'd be a perfect opportunity to meet a few people as well as getting a nice little showreel ready-made! : Cool

Deborah McKenzie - other than overdoing the eye makeup slightly - could not have been nicer, more encouraging - you name it!

OK, so I'm yet another of those pesky Journalism undergraduates (UCLAN) but I was pretty impressed that she tailored the advice to the person she was coaching - advising me to go for the ad-libs rather than trying to tell me how to read and stuff like that...

TBH, I just thought the whole exhibition was brilliantly done - and held together so well by that cute young man on the mic Very Happy

(mind you, how utterly nerdy did I feel, sitting at the newsdesk, watching him do his spiel before we had a go, just thinking "Wow. He's the guy off that TV forum...!")

Either way, if anyone can get over to the Belfast tour date, GO is all I'll say - as if I needed ANY more encouragement, this is what I AM gonna get into if it kills me - thanks guys!

Strictly no food inside the tent. However i'm sure there is somewhere nearby you can get something.

Get there as early as you can and go straight the the reception desk to book up for anything that interests you. Then while you wait for your turn you can try out the other things in the tent.

Don't forget you can vision mix, sound mix for radio or TV, operate autoque, operate the camera, present News or Sport for TV or radio or do the weather.

In Birmingham we were allowed food inside the tent.
