It's nice, just needs a background on those straps to make the text easier to read against light parts of the images.

Got the News Channel instead for the duration of the bulletin, crashing half way through a sport report into the Weather.

Don't they have an alternative region as back-up, such as Look North (Leeds), or Midlands Today, rather than taking the NC?

In the South West we get Points West from Bristol if Plymouth falls off air.

When the channels opt, the sustaining feed is used, which takes the NC. Unless pre-arranged, that is normally what happens. Even BBC London took the NC.

Over on the other side, we usually get Calendar when Granada Reports fails to show (which is starting to become a regular occurrence).

What is it exactly that causes these failures?

Does feel like across the regions it is happening more frequently on both the BBC and ITV.

Yes, but that relies on the ATOS run code and mux centres repatching the tx feeds, something that requires a bit of notice, and no doubt paperwork. Fine for a region that can give a hour or two notice, but impossible for a short notice fail to opt

Clearly not, but these days people talk about it on the internet.

It depends on the nature of the fault. Sometimes a region can get its neighbour on air if there is a studio problem such as a server fault affecting playing out packages.

I think Leeds and Hull have (or had) their opt system configured in a non standard way so either centre can opt pan regionally, for historical reasons and because they share a lot of opt outs. If either fails to opt the other studio is automatically available.

Yes, and I think that's also true for the other 'twined' regions, Southampton/Oxford, and Plymouth/Jersey, not sure about Cambs/Norwich though ?
