'living hold'...sequences...rendered loop...the matte...keying Viz...the server titles... matte overlay

You do realise you're just adding to his vocabulary of terms he doesn't understand but will use to make himself look smarter? Wink Razz

Damnit! I didn't mean to, honest!

Actually he's completely correct.

I *was* talking about holding the end of the One Show titles (played out locally from Salford) for a few seconds if they needed to wait for network.

The end of the One Show titles *are* keyed over the studio output, as you can see here:

Although it should be pretty easy to make a version that freezes once the logo has formed up if one isn't already available.

Has this forum really descended to level of taking the p*ss out of somebody for confusing the closely related terms "matte" and "key"?

They're different, in my book - a matte comes with the transparency areas pre-defined and pretty set in stone (though not necessarily) and key means to replace colour or luma - also key suggests on the fly to me, whereas a matte is pre-rendered.

Though I do take your point, however there's a version of the titles that has the following endboard:

I was assuming that the titles work something like these, with a big expanse of green at the end where the studio bit goes, via a simple chromakey facility.

I was under the impression that the term matte related to the area that would be removed in the compositing process, and keying (as in chromakey, lumakey etc) is a form of compositing which uses that matte.

The One Show titles do indeed work like the Daily Politics ones, as shown on David Lowe's site. Click on The One Show's title sequence on the showreel and you'll see.

I just have the commend the level of production last night for the Torch Relay coverage in Liverpool. The NWT team proved themselves to be amazing in each of their roles, be it presenting or reporting. They certainly pulled out all the stops to show the excitement in Liverpool from the crowds, the amazing stories to tell from the torch carriers, and an excellent commentary to the images they beamed out from the city last night, which they showed to having an electric atmosphere and a real sense of pride.

Roger, Tony, Annabel and others were really on top form tonight - they are such a strong team. In fact, it surprises me to say that Ranvir wasn't really missed from tonight's coverage - I forgot for the while I watched it that she had been on the programme at all. The best thing they can do is get Annabel to take over. She's on top form at the moment.

Is Roger Johnson still presenting 5 days a week as well as being on breakfast some weekends?

Exciting stuff. Summer holiday cover for Annabel but if she's good, let's hope she's on more often. And a possible reunion with Tony Livesey in late August too!

She's a perfectly decent newsreader - and undeniably easy on the eye - but I've always found her a strangely cold presence on screen. She lacks warmth for some reason.

I'm hoping that perhaps with regional news and the tendency for NWT to be warm and chemistry-driven towards the end with the links to sport and weather that we will see more of Rachael's personality. On the overnights, it's hard but I definitely agree that she was a bit rabbit in headlights during those shifts.

Oh, is that who it was.

I missed the start of the programme.

She managed to pull off looking very unfriendly for a large part of the bulletin, especially when doing the 'oh hell, my co-presenter is talking, where do I look?' bit.

She did seem to warm up towards the end of the programme.
