Last I heard, The One Show are due to move into London's current studio in December, so latter half of this year I'd expect London to move out.

Suspect London will be out quite soon.

Also, regarding the 8pm update, which gallery currently plays the red BBC One animation that transitions directly into Riz Lateef? Is that done by BBC One control, or by the news gallery?

The red BBC One animation is played out by the news gallery, as a form of opening titles.

Thanks as always, Noggin & Greg. Do you know what work will need to be done to the BBC London/One Show studio itself before TOS can move in? Also. considering the current BBC London set appears onscreen to be have a relatively small floorspace, and the area was originally designated to be a shop, will the studio be expanded at all before TOS moves in? I know TOS' current converted office space isn't a huge size and they make the most of it, but surely the current BBC London space is even smaller?

That would make a lot of sense, for some reason I just had a mental block about it being played by BBC One pres. In that case, forget all my sleep-deprived thoughts about BBC London & One HD the other day - routing it wouldn't be a complicated setup at all.

A new full gallery is being built for The One Show - as BBC London's currently gallery will continue to be used with Studio D when they move in there after their interim period in Studio A. I believe quite a lot of work will also be needed in the studio.

The BBC London set doesn't occupy the full space - so there is more potentially available for The One Show. However the view from the windows is much less striking than the view from the current One Show studio.

Not sure - but I think the total floor area of the space that BBC London are in (but don't fully use) may be similar. I suspect BBC London had some constraints on the size of their set imposed by it being almost 100% plasma-based. The bigger the set, the more expensive plasmas would be required to make it. (Similar logic to why the TC7 Barco set didn't use the full area available in TC7 I guess)

On HD doesn't the main summary presenter than do a weather summary? If so, it would be impossible to do the London opt from the same place, unless the weather is recorded.

No, a weather presenter does the opt-part of the HD broadcast. But given that BBC One and BBC One HD use the same presentation desk these days, would it actually be possible for BBC One HD to opt out of SD, which would be broadcasting London?

They could both be done from Studio A - it's not too tricky.
The 30' weather summary which is seen on BBC One HD is also on the sustaining feed. I'm not sure if it's played out from Studio A or NC1, but for this to work it'd need to be NC1. I'm pretty sure it's already prerecorded, so it makes little odds who presses play.

At 20:00:00, NC1 cuts to Studio A for the summary. At 20:01:00, NC1 plays out the weather. Meanwhile, BBC London hits the opt switch, and Studio A (either with the same presenter or a different one on a different camera) does their local news. 20:01:30, BBC London opts back in, and the channel goes about its merry way.

Perhaps the play out technology is clever enough to do two things at once from the same studio so no need for NC1 to do anything Wink

I keep forgetting that BH has so much more clever stuff than TVC. (I really need to pop down for a proper look around!)

It will be done using the 'alternative content' function of Mosart.
Basically - opt the nations and regions - and then via a DSK - the weather is played to BBC One HD and the BBC London presenter, who is standing the other side of the studio, does the BBC London content.
Red Bee need to do nothing - other than pick up the correct feeds from NBH.

Interesting stuff - is that how the national bulletins having a ticker on the NC and not on the BBC1 is done these days or is it still done in a similar way to in N6?

No - that is done by pooled and shared viz engines.

Essentially there are a number of TX lines out of NBH and a pool of Viz Lower third engines.
Each gallery use the Network Router to choose what is sent on each line and which engine is associated with that line, for example - News Channel (some may remember the long lost NET 24 feed - which is now TX19) has Studio E output with a viz engine set to NC style (logo and ticker) and TX1 (which is what goes to Red Bee) - has Studio E output with a different viz engine set to BBC 1 Bully style.
