I'm not sure - the screens currently seem to be showing a static, lower-resolution version of the daytime backdrop with no graphics being used on the screens.

Actually they're showing a picture of Bob Dylan on the side wall now, but the main wall is still using the poorer static daytime. Some kind of server issue?


It's happened before - on a Saturday about a year ago the Barcos got stuck on the Breakfast backdrop through till about 15:00, even during the BBC1 lunchtime bulletin. I did have a cap of Juliet Dunlop presenting around that 15:00 just before the problem disappeared. At this point a low-res, static version of the daytime backdrop appeared until the teatime bulletin when everything was fixed.

BARCO failure behind Chris Eakin at 00:05 - at first it was displaying (what appeared to be a static) daytime backdrop, which switched to a black screen and finally a non-stable blue screen, with a small 'NO PC INPUT' line visible. Chris apologised mid-story for the 'slightly odd technical problem in the studio'.

Just seen Jane Hill on Location at Buckingham Palace and when she crossed over to the weather, they used the split screen to cross to Darren Bett in the Weather studio - looked good, don't think I've ever seen them hand over to the Weather while the channel is on an O/B like that before.

Different TOTH wide-shot used in N6 for 12am. Did anyone capture it? Instead of panning in using the usual right camera, they used a static left camera shot which sat very low and had the graphics on the other Barco wall.

It was evidently an error, as the usual red appeared at the next bulletin. The blue used was the same blue oft seen on WBR.

It occurred on Friday morning at the wrap of The World Today, second edition, anchored by Martine Dennis and Juliette Foster, for anyone who may have captured it. Sorry I don't have capture "abilities".


I've seen it many a time, I even saw one BBC World News bulletin go out using Sport Today graphics this was some five six years ago Shocked

This shot does sometimes get used at weekends on the NC and on the odd occasion with the presenters facing the left camera shot during weekdays - depends on the producer I guess. It was done last week on the Five showing the live scenes as Obama prepared to make a speech: see below.

Personally I think it looks a bit awkward, it's an odd angle so looks strange against the desk.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but the BBC Trust are looking for people to complete a survery about the BBC News channel and BBC Parliament, for a consulation into the channels thats being conducted. Its been mentioned on the BBC news channel a couple of times...

Fascinating that the News Channel is obliged to take PMQ's, offer a programme such as Sportsday, and that it is strongly directed to have co-presenting from location for big international stories.

Also the condition about having more international news than Sky News - theoretically if Sky News devoted 99% of output to international stories then the BBC News Channel should devote 100% of output or it would be in breach of it's license. Maybe a condition which needs changing considering how well Sky News can cover international news, particularly big stories
