I do trust that during the Election Campaign (when it officially kicks off) that the N9 Gallery will be on standby so if the news channel has to provide a network bulletin and theres a speech going on they can stick with the speech/election news if necessary and not have the incident today, where David Cameron is holding a conference/talk in Milton Keynes and gets cut off half way through for the lunchtime bulletin and then re-opts back into it again - 10 minutes later, missing half of it. If they show a Gordon Brown speech in full they will have to broadcast the other parties in full as well to show impartiality.
They should have brought someone in today to do the network bulletin from a CSO - like hapenned the other week when the network bulletin was scheduled during Dateline London. The speech was a known about event that for impartiality should have been covered in full. While the Saturday lunchtime bulletin has been from the news channel for a few years now in this case the expense of a 2nd presenter etc was justified
Would another option that may not incur additional costs be for the BBC London presenter to do the national bulletin. Presumably it's easily feasible for BBC London to be routed as output across the network.

Agreed - I'm sure they could have had one of the breakfast presenters, who finished at 10, stay on till 12 to do this...
Does anyone know if after the move to Broadcasting House, the News Channel and Nationals will be separate again? Solve this issue altogether.
I suppose another way around it would be to have a small presentation area with a gallery (would be useful to have a spare I suppose) and adjustable lighting so it could be used for 60 Seconds and headline updates instead of a silly CSO.
Off topic slightly, but I miss when the studio was used like this. Now it's so bland.
How is it now used any differently to the above picture?
They don't seem to use any exciting camera angles any more, they've got rid of the little podium and the little walk that the sport presenters used to do, they're not using the screens to their full potential either.
The studio can look so good, as in the photo above. However they just seem to let it tick over, dull as ever.

Yep, and the 'Breaking News' sound effect has gone too.

I don't believe the White squares above the studio are there anymore.
Nope they're still there. The only major difference is the lighting - the top bar across the screens used to be white for the News Channel and then lit in red for the main news bulletins. Since the Barcos were upgraded, the top bar now remains red for the majority of the time.

They stopped the Breaking News effect in the relaunch - therefore isn't something that's stopped since that picture, as per the other comments. The studio is far too dark at the moment - whatever technical people on here say about N8 and N9 having poor lighting and lack of a 'studio' the general lighting to ordinary viewers is, in my opinion, far greater.
