Was just thinking: why isn't Newsnight simulcast on the NC. It really makes sense…doesn't it? It's already broadcast on WN late & I believe would fit - especially with upcoming cuts and schedule changes. Do you think there's a chance it could happen (especial since in spite of the cuts, Newsnight's budget has increased)

Newsnight isn't simulcast on either NC or World, an edition of Newsnight, especially edited for the international audience, is shown weekly on BBC World News. It is shown on BBC World News as audiences don't otherwise have access to it, what would the point be in showing it on the NC if it is already on BBC Two? Yes the nationals are also shown on there but that is because they share a similar editorial policy, resources, studio etc. unlike Newsnight which has a completely different editorial policy, a completely different style and quite frankly would look out of place on the NC.

There would be no realistc reason whatsoever to move newsnight to the news channel, it wouldn't be worth it for so many reasons. You can't expect it to keep their viewers on a move to the NC, then what would be the point in keeping all of their dedicated reporters, when the news channel has their own. The studio etc, i could go on. I agree with DTV.

One option that has been suggested in the past is moving Newsnight into the News Channel studio and making it a simulcast (which would be a real issue if the Ten and Newsnight overlapped on busy news days...)

Whilst you could retain the Newsnight location journalism, you would reduce the studio costs significantly, at the expense of a much more homogenous studio look with far less production, and reduced flexibility in interview style.

Has any consideration been given to moving Newsnight to 11pm? It seems the most logical move to me.

Given the massive general tv audience fall off at 11pm. It doesn't sound very logical to me.

I think if Newsnight was to be broadcast on both BBC2 and the News Channel it would be best to stay at half 10 before the Papers preview. It would likely have to be an extended 1 hour programme though.

Not sure Newsnight would work on the News Channel at 22:30 as it's quite distinct from other news programmes. Its duration is also a problem and you'd lose the headlines at 23:00. What could work, however is a repeat later on the News Channel, say at 00:10 after a headlines roundup. Not sure how much of a cost saving that would create with a studio not being used during that time.

I think most decent people are in bed by 22:59.

Did anyone see the opening to the '10 on NC just now? I think Nick Owen got caught in the infamous floor manager camera trap. He tried so hard to go off screen, but failed.

Don't have the tech but it's funnier as a video or GIF rather than still grab.
