As Simon McCoy signed off from the News at One, he spotted something that made him jump on/under his desk.
Can't work out how to capture it, but if you rewind to 13:31 on the live iPlayer feed you can see it, just after the signer fades out (it was cut off earlier on BBC One)
I think I'm reading too much into it, but it couldn't possibly be a reference to that Coronation Street clip with the signer could it? It's a stretch but I'd like to think it was

What has happened to the TOTH countdown on the News Channel? Over the last week, whenever I have caught it, there is no visual countdown (in terms of the numbers appearing on screen against the shots of the BBC reporters) and the music is completely out of sync.
Is it being phased out? A terrible decision if so.

There was a countdown into the 11am headlines on the news channel and into GMT on BBC World News so i would suggest the numbers are staying.

Last sunday half the time the countdown was not used just to allow a longer ( a proper lengh weather report) since remember half past the hours slots are now used for actually programmes, Still waiting for newsnight to end up here.
There may have been a countdown at 11 but at 12 they used the version without numbers (which is the filler countdown, which loops and is used normally at the weekends on the NC before a non-standard timed BBC One bulletin) - I initially thought this may have been because the previous half hour overran and they wanted to fit a full weather report in and also allow the studio to prepare, but I think they still hit the TOTH, so surely they could have used the countdown?
Strange day for the countdowns, The 1, 2 and 3 o'clock TOTHs had no countdown and instead used the filler. 4 o'clock went straight from the weather to the headlines.
I believe that World's countdown isnt played out at NBH but is by Red Bee?

This is what I mean. The lack of countdowns at the TOTH is becoming now becoming a fixture - it's been happening for quite a few days now.
No countdown at 5pm today to add to the growing list.
I am convinced they're gradually phasing it out - bad, bad mistake if so. The filler music on a loop is out of sync and is very badly edited.

I did see a new graphic with things "coming up on BBC News" this morning.
