Send your complaining texts (and lots of them please!) to 61124...

Not seen it yet, but it sounds awful. If they have to pacify the brainless tossers who are complaining about the clock being out of view on their dinosaur TV, why not something like this...

There's also a pretty unpleasant fade effect where the ticker runs out to the left behind the clock. What a shame.

Looks like a quick bodge job to please management. The previous fade worked perfectly well so why change it? It's also making the two shades of red on the lower left looking even more sloppy and pointless.

Not possible as there has to be a point of which the ticker has a static title which fades on. Doing it this way would use too much screen space.

No no no no.

A real shame for the design team. What a mess. It does look acceptable without the ticker or white bar - the clock is actually white text, encased in a black surround, but actually animates onto screen in a two-tone black/grey box, which extends out from the N24 logo, but the two-tone box is over-ridden by the white ticker bar when it arrives. The whole thing looks unbalanced, unjustified to have someone working on this overnight.

Overall, since the few early glitches with the new graphics package, it's settled down to be quite good. Other things to be improved include:

- LIVE/ Location bug - needs properly aligning with the'BBC' logo at the bottom, so it matches up. The horizontal design does work well over the previous stacked design, just needs a small tweak to line it up.

- Clock. Put it back where it was yesterday, by all means keep the smaller text (even though it's harder to see, on smaller screens), but it needs putting back in the red bar for balance and for ease of finding the bloody thing! Bizarrely it seems even more hidden where it is now. Plus the ticker text viewable on screen is now far too short, and when the ticker title comes up, e.g. 'Headlines', the whole thing just looks a mess. I am hoping that the clock's position will be left where it is now for weekend Breakfast, when the ticker is not in use anyway, but moved back into the red bar next week for News 24.

- Titles - is the globe supposed to nearly come to a halt from spinning, as the '24' logo appears? Is this a rendering issue, or is this an intentional part of the design?

- Studio - Projection screens need a refresh, becoming too dark again.

- Weather in the studio - works fine from the right hand pod, but needs communicating to all directors to get the camera zoomed in and craned up to get a half decent look at the map. Wide views of the right hand pod look great, and work well for graphical data on the screen, but we need to get a good look at that map. Yesterday's sequences with Carol Kirkwood a prime example - nice sequences, good to have her in the studio, worked great - just needed to take that camera slowly in and up as she gets into her forecast, so we get to a nice head & shoulders / screen shot. One example yesterday, the entire forecast was from the vantage point of a full wide from the camera on the right hand pod. A lovely shot, the wides in that studio are fantastic, but simply not practical for a forecast. By all means, drift into a close from a wide shot, so it has a bit of dynamic and looks nice, but first things first - we need to see the map, hard enough as it is until the screens get a refresh.

- Headlines summaries - is there not a version of the new titles that can indefinatly animate, with the '24' on? This is the animation which appears for a few frames during headlines summaries, and is the holding slide on the projector screens in the studio. Headlines summaries have just had the new generic globe, and screens yesterday were showing the old BOTH '24' globe/ ribbons with 'BBC News' beneath it - can there not be a new version, with '24' on top of the globe?

A few more tweaks still required, but overall pretty good. Firstly - that clock has to go back to where it came from. Understandable that they would want it there for weekend Breakfast, for the large number of terrestrial / analogue viewers currently, but get it back in the red bar for News 24. Looks a hideous compromise at the moment, no-one can be happy with that.

Isn't that where the clock is today then, just with a black background? Uses the same amount of space.

The fact that the globe slows down on purpose was a well thought out descision... the reason..as the 24 shows up we want the all important and well known part of the globe in full view and spinning slowly as to keep in with the static logo as much as possible. So a slow drift of the globe was completely intentional. Branding is very important you know Rolling Eyes

Thanks mac1, much appreciated. What are your thoughts on the clock situation, if possible for you to comment?

Does anyone know the number of complaints received about the clock position? If they received a similar number of complaints about today's change I wonder if they'd move it again... 90% sure that would be a 'no'.

ooohh im not so sure actually, I think possibly if you wanted it pink with green spots and there where enough complaints then it may transpire one day. Wink the BBC is of course the peoples channel so why not let the people design it??
