Another thing about the Nickelodeon channels is, as far as I can tell, they don't even seem to show the end credits any more, they just abruptly cut to the endcaps.

And with Rugrats it seems funny you only have to go back to the early-mid 00s when it seemed to dominate the schedules of both Nick and NickToons- now it's not on all right now. Though you can see from that video I posted the SpongeBob domination had already started- which continues to this day.

Similar to Nick Jr. and Nick Jr. Too, with Peppa Pig dominating the schedules on both channels.

Especially when I've seen Nick Jr. Too rebranded as 'Nick Jr. Peppa'

Its an utter shame, there is also this from Knightmare website: I cant find it on the site but it stated how the then CITV controlled believe the battle was already lost with these viewers and it was no point going on.

I was waiting to see if somebody would find this article before I posted it. I was well aware of its existence nearly 15 years ago. It also ties in to an extent with the parents of another person I was discussing the issue with getting satellite in the second half of the 1990s.

I had a think about the issue and it became clearer that the 8 to 14 age group is one that has never seriously been given much attention by broadcasters. What has historically happened is that it has been served by a combination of children's programmes that appeal and adult programmes that appeal but few are specifically designed with that age group in mind. Programmes like Knightmare were exceptional cases.

In my youthful age I used to find, rather annoyingly, that many interesting factual programmes and documentaries on the terrestrial channels were shown later than 9PM whilst the schedule between 5:30PM and 9PM was dominated by news and popular entertainment for adults. It did make me wonder whether schedulers had families in mind or not.

I'm not sure whether 8 to 14 year olds even watch TV in significant numbers any more to even warrant providing for that demographic or whether they overwhelmingly prefer video games and YouTube. The only types of programmes that I know will be genuinely useful for this age group are educational programmes relating to National Curriculum subjects.

Pop and Kix has shows for 8 to 14 year olds like Jamie's Got Tentacles, LEGO Legends of Chima, Clay Kids, Littlest Pet Shop, Rated A For Awesome, LEGO Friends, The High Fructose Adventures of Annoying Orange, Totally Spies, Buzz Bumble etc.

Something missing from the original Nicktoons set, out of the original three only one continues to air off and on but without this:

Dunno if its present on the home releases.

The original Nicktoons in order were Doug, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy and later followed up with Rocko's Modern Life and Real Monsters. In fact IIRC every animation up until Hey Arnold may have had a Nicktoons sting (above) on it, and everything after Arnold didn't, and any repeats after that lost the original sting. IIRC.

I was under the impression that sting was played out from pres before the show started rather than being burnt into the start of the episode.

One thing that was definately burnt into the tapes was the "subtitles" caption they used to use until the late 90s- it turned up on repeats of older shows for years (maybe it still does?)

That used to annoy me because for many years there were no subtitles on the Nickelodeon channels on digital cable.

Interesting that one of them is wearing a Hull City shirt there, considering that in 1999 they were nowhere near as good or popular as today. They were in the Third Division (what is now League Two) back then, and had been for some time.

Renford Rejects was shown on T4 for a brief while as well I seem to remember.

Your quite right I remember watching this when I was growing up back when T4 first started and showed a lot of different shows such as Renford Rejects, The Crystal Maze (Repeats), Saved by the Bell and Johnny Bravo instead of constant episodes of Friends or the Big Bang Theory which featured in the final years of T4.

When T4 started they showed a lot of stuff aimed at kids, not just teenagers. They seemed to phase that out around 2001/2-ish. Not that long before it started going downhill when they dumped their pres in a studio and pre-recorded it rather than being live in the Channel 4 lobby.

Though there was a time they showed a Nickelodeon pre-school show, Yo Gabba Gabba during the late 00s out of nowhere for some reason.
