I was having a discussion recently about whether there are enough TV programmes - or more accurately enough good quality and appealing programmes - for 8 to 14 year olds or whether it happens to be an age group that is overlooked and ignored by broadcasters. What do you think?

Being 14 myself, I think that from maybe 12 you start watching more adult programming, like around 12 I started watching Family Guy and started to stop watching some of the old programmes (although I'm partial to a #Throwback[Insert Day Here]).

But I would say that 8-14 you start adapting to new programmes more suited to an older generations programming and dropping the old ones.

8 isn't the same as 14. Primary school children are well catered for, but older children and teenagers have been pretty much abandoned with the axing of T4 and CBBC refocusing a number of years ago on younger children and the short lived teen strand Switched being axed before it really began. It's certainly one area where those of us of that age in the 90s were better served.

Once they get past CBeebies, most children up to the age of 10 tend to gravitate towards the likes of Nickelodeon and CBBC. After that there is scope on the Disney Channel and some of the Nickelodeon programming (often from the Nick at Nite strand) that supposedly appeals towards older children, if they haven't been introduced to other distractions in the meantime

Disney has that Wizards of Waverley Place show, that was apparently so popular it ran for 106 episodes and spawned two TV films while starring nobody under the age of 15, while Nickelodeon seems to be the home of Dan Schneider teen comedy sitcoms with varying degrees of success over the years so its not like there isn't any teenage oriented programming at all, its just mixed up with the rest of the schedule.

That being said, you know what you like, and there comes a point in any kids life where Nickelodeon drives them totally up the wall and out the door, or in search of less "in your face" programming ala grown-up TV.

Take into account certain adult programmes (such as documentaries and wildlife programmes) as well as programmes officially produced for children.

While we're on the subject of kids channels, could somebody please explain why Nickelodeon are still showing their late 90s homegrown sitcom 'Renford Rejects' at 3 o'clock in the morning? http://www.tvguide.co.uk/titlesearch.asp?title=Renford%20Rejects

A while ago Nickelodeon (no, I'm not getting mixed up with Nick Jr!) were showing Peppa Pig at something like 4 in the morning - they just need to have something to fill the late night schedules.

Stick some of The Amanda Show on, then! I don't remember anyone who actually watched Renford Rejects.

Because those stumbling across Nicklodeon at 3am in the morning are more likely to remember such a show than whatever they're churning out now.

That's been there off and on for a very long while; sort of omni-present in the Nickelodeon schedule. A quick search on Sky guide suggest they for whatever reason Nickelodeon are only showing every other episode, S4 Ep 2 on Sat 3am, S4 Ep4 on Sunday morning, etc from the fourth and final series.

I wonder if Nick want to be assosiated with her nowadays with her drug problems and other issues.

Well, I wasn't being entirely serious, the only reason I picked that was because it was my favourite Nick show. Years before any of the unpleasant headlines and such.
