What has happened to ITV Nighttime? As a student in the mid-nineties, ITV Nighttime was required viewing when stoned. Programmes were crap American imports like American Gladiators or Videofashion or were crap English shows like God’s Gift, the James Whale Show or the LWT only Dial Midnight. But like the threads about Friendly TV testify, something so bad is like a car crash, you can’t help but look.

Now Nighttime is just repeats of Trisha and Wish you were here. There doesn’t seem to be any made-for-Nighttime programming anymore.

Also what is ITV Nightscreen all about? Two hours of telextext pages. Why is ITV not 24 hour anymore?

While I am on about it. Bring back those neon people idents, instead of the bland generic ITV ident.

Also does anyone have any memories of any old Nighttime programmes to jog my memory!

Didn't you already post that on TV Ark?

Nightscreen isn't Teletext anymore.

There is, its just you've watched the wrong night

Nightime programmes this week which don't appear anywhere else include Entertainment Now, World Football, World Sport, Turn on Terry, Take the Mike, Get Stuffed, ITV at the festivals, Cybernet, plus not on at the moment there is also Dial-a-Date

Can anyone confirm if the date when IT= became | itv | coincided with ITV Nightscreen getting it's revamp from Teletext to Intelfax?

It's always been produced by Intelfax - that's the company. The first version was in the style of text pages and the info was drawn from the 600s pages on text (with generic non-region-specific graphics). The second version was the Powerpointy version which was recently replaced by Nightscreen v3.

Hey, you missed the best ITV Night Time show of all time . . . The Hitman and Her! How could anyone forget
when Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachan hosted a "Club MTV" style dance music show from a different
night club each week. It usually went out at 2am on Sunday mornings for 2 hours, and ran for about 4 years.
Looking back at it now, the format was tacky, but much better than the crap you get on ITV Night Time now!

These screengrabs were taken from a show recorded at The Mall Nightclub, Stockton on Tees in 1989.
Back then, in the first two seasons of the Hitman and Her, it was a two hour show, split into two halves,
with LWT's Night Network sandwiched for two hours in between. IIRC, the schedule looked like this:

01:00 The Hitman and Her
02:00 Night Network
04:00 The Hitman and Her
05:00 ITN Morning News
06:00 TV-am

When Night Network finished, the Hitman and Her moved into that 2-4am timeslot until Nov 1992.
That was when ITV axed the show, and the last ever edition was shown on (IIRC) Dec 5th 1992.

The last ever show was recorded at the Discotheque Royale, Manchester on Nov 24th 1992, only
four days after my 18th birthday. That was just bl**dy typical! The moment I became old enough
to attend a recording of my favorite TV show of the time, and ITV decide to pull the plug on it!

I think ITV1 nighttime is all networked now - I remember not so long ago that the regions did their own things. Or at least a group of regions would show different progs - i.e Anglia/Meridian/HTV would have the same schedule while Central/London would have a different schedule.

I think the only regional variation now is that some regions show Jobfinder instead of Nightscreen - I think Yorkshire do this not sure if any of the other regions do though

Ooh, the last show happens to fall on my 15th Birthday! But anyway, I loved that show in a funny way even if Pete Waterman used it a big one hour promotion for all of his signed artists. They were always having the exclusive new single by Kylie Mingoue.

On tape I have about 20 Minutes worth of it and I watched it the other day and it was hilairous, with the people having to dance. On tape I must have a 'Best Of' edition as it shows that Pete and Michela were sitting at a table, with Michela looking rather drunk, but it features many clips from The Mall at Stockton On Tees, during 1988/1989.

Shame they didn't do the last one at home. Better known as Mr Smiths Nightclub, Warrington. (and yes the club is still there!)

IIRC in 1990, they did about 10 consecutive editions of the Hitman & Her at the Discotheque Royale, in M'cr.
Looking back, in all 205 editions of the HMAH, they visited the Discotheque Royale than any other nightclub.

Maybe I should dig out my tape of that last ever show, and make a few screengrabs of it. Perhaps the most
memorable moment of the last edition of the HMAH was when they put a "Noel's House Party" style gunge
tank on the stage and gunged Clive (aka Wiggy) the dancer that always wore a long white mullet wig.

Grampian and Scottish show a different nighttime - but it sounds just as bad as the rest of the uk. We get Weirs Way which was made by STV in the 70's!!!

I think it WAS PowerPoint! It must have had two looks though - squares, and its predecessor the hearts. I wonder if the graphic style used by what you call v3, will be used by the rest of the channel?
