Here is V5 of Weekend.

I've made some significant changes in this update, including brightening up the set, ditching the 'VV' and have created a consistent pattern thought. (Rather than a news/showbiz split throughout).

I'm going to go through all of the changes one by one, including my justifications for these changes.

First up are the graphics. Whilst the clock was always visible in the last update, the logo got lost because there was nothing behind it. I moved the logo and clock around endlessly before deciding on this positioning. I tried having the clock only and various box formations (like Daybreak 2012). The semicircle at the side may appear odd to begin with, but I think it's an effective way of having a smaller aston without squashing the larger aston. The semicircle isn't there at all times, just for the regular features and news stories (top story, breaking news, etc.) I'm not 100% on the semicircle, but it's the best idea I think I have come up with. Shown below is how the live bug and strap animates, the new TOTH, opening shot and a program menu (used after the top story).

Now on to the set. The shape of the desk was changed to 'pill' shaped, to allow 4 presenters to sit there. Wallpaper was added behind the the shelving. New wooden flooring and soft area. The new soft area has LCD screens which can display solid colours (as shown), or be used during features. Also shown below is an example of how the soft area could be used, for an Xmas feature in this case.

Please let me know what you think, I spent a lot of time on this update. I would really appreciate any advice you may have on how to improve this Smile .

Good evening.

I see you have taken on board a lot of the suggestions I made about rectifying inadequacies in your last mock, e.g. the 'Weekend' no longer being white text with no backdrop.

I like these on the whole, but I wonder whether the opening graphics / menu would be better utilising the blue and green on the clock in the triangle design, rather than green and a yellow which is only seen there.

I like the graphics, including the 'semi circle' - its use is not dissimilar from the 'TOP STORY', 'NEW OVERNIGHT' etc used on Good Morning Britain.

I fear that the text may be too small on the whole, and I wonder whether everything's a little too low - maybe move the graphics up (and the 'LIVE' information down) a tad to absolutely ensure 16:9 safety.

The sofa looks like someone's painted some cardboard boxes a bluey-grey colour and added some cushions. Apart from the angular nature of it, though, it's much nicer than the whiter one you debuted in version four.

(As an aside, I doubt Piers Morgan would be up for coming in to talk specifically about politics early on a Saturday if he's already on Good Morning Britain three days a week, but, that's really by-the-by.)

I like the change in typeface very much. (Though you've still got the 'VV' ornament in the studio, which, surely, should now be removed?)

There has been much debate about 'ratings' and whether mocks should have 'hidden' individual ratings to make one average score on this forum. I will publicly tell you I am giving this three stars to alleviate this. I think this is the best version of Weekend you've done.

Good work.

- the triangles in the title sequence don't work for me sadly. It gives off a very old-fashioned Anglia vibe
- the font you've chosen is OK for things like the programme title, but doesn't quite lend itself to the general on-screen graphics - it is quite hard to read. This kind of text should be easily readable from a distance. You would have been better off simply using the standard ITV font for the aston text and the clock, rather than using it just on the menu and nowhere else
- the 'VV' may have gone from the titles and graphics but is still clearly visible on the shelf behind the presenters
- I'm afraid I'm not keen on the alliteration - Piers' Politics, Hilary's Health etc etc - just comes off as rather tacky (mind you, I hardly ever watch Good Morning Britain or Weekend so I've no idea if that's what they currently do)
- the studio is far better than your previous attempts - but that sofa looks strange... the low back gives off the impression the presenters' feet wouldn't touch the floor

All in all, much better - but still a lot of work to be done.

(And if we're going to be public about voting: your last attempt did not deserve the "respectable" rating it got IMO. This version is far better so I have given you a 3-star rating.)

Much much better!

I agree with comments already put here.

I think it would look better if the triangles were equilateral - at the moment they appear to be a little bit flat and wide.

The font looks fine on the logo but I don't think it's very legible on the straps - perhaps fine as a display font but you may want to choose something that is easier to read for the bulk of text - why not use ITV Reem.

The Christmas images on the screens are stretched.

Not a fan of the pink wallpaper myself but personal choice. If you're presenting news in front of that it is perhaps a little odd. If it were me would look into something still interesting but perhaps more neutral.

I think the sofa is too boxy.

If you want a more informal appearance I'm not sure the 'coffee table' fits into that... Perhaps something more homely would fit in better.

Also - hate to be pedantic - "Xmas" should really be "Christmas".

All in all it's an improvement from before. not there yet but you do show improvement compared to your first mock on the forum.

This is incredibly frustrating.

I want you to be better. Every time i see you've posted something new i think, maybe this time he will have listened and learned from what experienced members have posted, and every time i am met with crushing disappointment. Or perhaps you need more help than we are able to give. I dont know and this all just adds to my frustration. I wish some of the good quality mocks could somehow rub off on you.

Your sketchup modelling skills do seem to be slowly improving, which is proof that those who told you to spend more time working on your mocks were right. Patience is a virtue and everyone gets better with practice.

Unfortunately you still have absolutely no clue when it comes to design. This is probably because you have split your time between different disciplines and thus havent given the vector graphics the attention they needed. I'm guessing you're still using Powerpoint, which as has repeatedly been stated is absolutely insufficient for this sort of work. It may be better if you used another piece of software to create your graphics and animate them in Powerpoint.

I recommend you get yourself a free copy of Inkscape, which is a vector graphics programme not too dissimilar to Adobe Illustrator (what all the pros use) and learn about colour theory, font theory and how to design vector graphics. (Google is your friend O.o) Most of us on here started with Still images before some of us progressed to animation. I'm sure you would also find it very satisfying having the ability to design your own textures and graphics to use in your studio mocks.

Also - Why not use your existing skills to design some 3d graphics or a title sequence in Sketchup? You may learn something new that repeated studio mocks arent teaching you.

I still dont understand why you continue to produce mocks for imaginary programmes. Its like producing an advert for a product that doesnt exist. There are people who disagree with me for it, but i see designs for imaginary programmes as a critical failure. You could easily have done one of the many bazillion other Breakfast TV shows that exist around the world if you didnt want to do GMB.

It is clear to me that you currently lack the skills to improve this mock, which is why i havent gone into specific things to improve. You're asking for a plaster and what it needs is major surgery.

Members have the right to comment how they see fit, it is a forum, thats how it works. It is for the Moderators to decide if members are 'ruining another thread'. Also for the record, I have no personal issue with you. I merely find your apparent inability to take advice and lumbering progression incredibly frustrating. This post has taken me over an hour to write and edit, If i did not care about you or your designs i would not post at all. I sincerely want you to get better.

PS. If you would like my advice before you post your next mock PM me - as others have in the past - i would be happy to help if i can.

ITV Reem is used on the menu and the thin font is used on everything else.

Okay, some feedback from myself:

First off, the studio. The coffee table is nice, but the sofa isn't. It looks like the presenter's feet would be dangling about whilst they sat there (perhaps leading to an accidental kicking of the orange juice beaker). Where will computer screens go in this new desk? It looks nice, but the practicalities don't work.

As a side note, the music doesn't work at all. Find something new.

Graphics. They aren't shockingly bad but they could be better. The triangle design on the titles doesn't work - the colours don't compliment each other. Perhaps it's time to try a new idea that doesn't involve triangles, considering that the triangles are only in the titles and menu. Why are you using the logo font for all the graphics? Pick a much more legible font like ITV Reem (you're using that in half your mock anyway).

My main issue with your mock however is the idea behind it. What is Weekend? Is it just like GMB, but at the weekend? If that's the case (which it seems to be) then why is it a whole new programme? Perhaps "GMB Weekend" or something like that. You need to take a step back and reevaluate what this whole concept is. Without knowing exactly what you're doing with this show, you can hardly expect to produce something that looks good and works well on screen.

For now I'd be hard pushed to give it any more than 2 or 3 stars. Your studio skills have improved massively, so take some time to see if you can do the same for your graphics. Take SRS's advice and do some research . I'm going to be interested in what comes next.

Sorry, you're correct. But:

Quote:
I propose a show that is presented by Charlotte Hawkins, Ben Shepard and Louisa James which runs from 7-9.25am each Saturday and Sunday. I've created a new studio, logo, graphics, titles and website design, along with a new concept for the show altogether. This project has taken just over 3 months to complete. Two studios were binned, the final studio was the third studio I'd created for this project. A number of logos/title cards were designed, I chose two to work on further, before eventually deciding on the one above. I think it's simple, modern, elegant and fits with the ITV brand. Weekend closely ties in with Good Morning Britain and Lorraine. During Weekend, previews of what's coming up on Good Morning Britain and Lorraine on Monday are shown. These previews are recorded on the Friday (or Thursday for Lorraine), then shown before the ad breaks each hour.

If this is still the concept, my point stands. This is basically a GMB on the weekend. For a new show, it should have a (even slightly) different concept.

Thank you all for taking the time out to look through my mock and give me some feedback, I really appreciate it.

Here are the list of changes for V5.1:

- Change font on graphics back to ITV Reem
- Revise title card design
- Adjust sofa design
- Change 'W' decoration

I will definitely download a copy of Inkscape, and will have a play around, before beginning to learn how to use it fully. Thank you for the suggestion SRS.

To address the concept behind Weekend, it is essentially GMB, but it features different segments such as Politics and Property news.

Despite my relatively short response, I have taken everything on board and have sent a few PMs to various people thanking them personally.
