The RTE News set had been used to broadcast the special commemorative ceremony of WWI from Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin with a special green coloured background for the programme. There were some history experts on the subject of WWI in the newsroom who were analysing on the day's events with Brian Dobson.

.

One was Miles Dungan, who for many years presented what is now Drivetime (though in his era it was Today at Five and then Five Seven Live) on RTE Radio 1. He's been with RTE for decades but has been very quiet over the past ten years or so.

RTÉ News has come out of Summer basic service due to the death of former Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Albert Reynolds, an extended One O' Clock news with Aognas Mac Grianna and Sharon Ni Bheolan has just concluded and Sharon has promised an extended Six One.
For those unaware during the month of August the One o Clock news is trimmed from a 30 min bulletin to just 10 minutes and it moves to the secondary studio (Todays One was back in the main studio). Six One gets reduced to 30 mins, single headed presentation and a sport presenter (basically like a weekend edition) Nine o Clock is untouched.

However the Nine O Clock has a lot more 'light' stories than the rest of the year. IMHO.

Brian Dobson has come back from holiday to present this "extended" (1 hour) edition of Six One with Sharon.

There was a half-hour Prime Time Special narrated by Claire Byrne on the death of the former Taoiseach on RTE One earlier tonight.

RTE.ie has launched a Nuacht RTE website for national, international and regional news stories from the website written in the Irish Language. The news output for it's radio coverage and the website is through a joint initiative from Nuacht TG4 base in Baile na hAbhann and from Radio Na Gaeltachta in Connemara Co. Galway.

http://www.rte.ie/news/nuacht/ (rte.ie/nuacht would have been an easier way to write in the web browser in my opinion.)

Are there any TV reports into this launch available from RTE because I cannot find it on the website itself.

RTE News on Two has finally bit the dust, having been reduced to an extended summary last year. It'll be replaced by two short summaries branded Newsfeed at 18:55 and 19:55. Not really a fan of this move since it means the only news on Irish television after 9:30pm is the late night summary on RTE One (TV3 having scrapped the already tinned down hard news component of Vincent Browne's show). Also the apparent lack of RTE News branding would seem to be a step backwards.

Newsfeed is starting shortly on RTE 2 if you want to see it now.

Its almost exactly the same format as 60 Seconds on BBC Three.

Of course, I forgot that the late night news deficit will only last until January, when UTV Ireland Live at Ten debuts.

I wasn't impressed with it either. Too much green on the screen for a start. And it's only on twice a night.

A lot less scheduled than BBC Three's efforts. And a lot poorer one at that. Nuff Said.

It's actually a little bizarre that all the other stations seem to be clearing the way for UTV Ireland Live at Ten.
