Interesting. Custom "ten minute" on-screen score update on the BBC that looks like it's being generated somewhere else (maybe on the feed?) because it doesn't animate quite right.

Watching on HD DTT AND D-Sat there's some nasty coding artefact, the score bar breaks up when the background it's on top of is the crowd, and there's fast panning. Note sure whether that's an emission problem with the final coding here, or an artefact on the HBS provided circuit back to the UK ?

All the match graphics apart from the scorebar are effectively the world feed ones with a BBC skin on them and have been for the last three world cups. I'm not sure that's why the animation looks dodgy tough.

Now you say that, that sounds familiar. I think they stand out more because the animation "template" doesn't match the layout of the graphics. I certainly don't remember it being noticeably, err, noticeable in previous years.

Yeah it's a really nice system the animations are the same as the hbs one but with the bbc skin.

Would look better if they ditched the black bars and just had the scorers on the "glass". Also not a huge fan of this huge BBC Sport logo rotating over to reveal the graphics all the time - usually subtle branding (as this set has had over the last decade) works far better.

Here is the ESPN intro being used. They have kept the same theme music

ITV's commentary team is greatly depleted without Peter Drury and Jon Champion. Only really Clive Tyldesley is a recognisable voice now. I've never heard of the other two lead commentators that have been on today. Equally their co-commentators have been depleted as well. Clarke Carlisle is hardly a good enough player to be co commentating on the World Cup and Lee Dixon is multi tasking doing some co commentary as well!

I think both ITV and the BBC are now really lacking distinctive voices, just Pearce and Tyldesley have those iconic instantly recognisable tones at this World Cup. The BBC should have poached Jon Champion at the beginning of the last season and made him lead commentator for this World Cup.

Also I know it's his last tournament but I think the BBC should be using Hansen on all the biggest games that don't involve England.

I agree about Champion. He's by far the best of the current crop of commentators. He started at Sport on Two and I really enjoyed it when he was on Match of the Day. Had he not left for ITV he probably would have succeeded Motson and Davies.

I've always wondered why ITV insist on having an ITV Sport logo on screen. The BBC get away with a colour scheme but ITV seem to insist on wasting space.

The BBC also have their logo on the scorebar. Confused Confused Confused Confused

He's on about the word sport I think.
