They really knocked it out of the park with the staging tonight. Massive staging on the long shots, yet managed to keep it quite tight on the close-ups. Also noticed the LED screens were only for the wide shots with projections on the shorts, which sorts the whole close up pixelation thing. You'd never think it was coming from a warehouse. Very, very clever

Just a shame about the BBC Three coverage really...

Think this years bbc three coverage has been rather good actually, no awkward pick ups with presenters waiting for their cue, no crashes back into the main feed, even some of the slightly odd interval act preserved for us fans. Well done I say. There must be pressure from BBC three to keep it 'on message' for their audience, plus die hard fans want to see as much raw EBU content as possible. IMO this was a good compromise mix of both.
The staging was incredible by the way, the use of led as mainly lighting/setting plus occasional bits of video was superbly effective.
Though I don't much like the song (and there was some tuning issues tonight) the Armenian entry's staging was utterly fabulous.

If viewers want as much raw EBU coverage as possible with commentary, then they should take a look at how RTE do it. Scott Mill's just doesn't know when to zip it, showing the interval act and then yapping over it? Nah not impressed by it at all.
Laura Whitmore clearly doesn't know much about it either, saying that it was the first time being presented by 3 presenters...Fail.

To be honest though, 99% of the viewing public will only tune-in on Saturday

Because RTE aren't obliged to also serve a youth audience at the same time.
Anyone would think they didn't care about Eurovision and were just taking it on as it seemed like a half decent telly gig!
I've always liked the principal of interviewing the likes of Molly on the BBC Three coverage. I wish people a bit more clued up would present it though.

I'd disagree with that as it was broadcast on RTE Two which also caters for a younger audience...

I'd say there is probably more flexibility there, it's not regidly a youth channel, it's also the home of sport for example.
Perhaps this should be treated the same way as when BBC Three takes sport though, and the format of the channel becomes an irrelevance. You could argue having Radio 1 types secures the future of the contest though and means they'll be some exposure on that outlet.

I would say its a mix of BBC 2 and 3 in target audience. It's isn't always youth focused. It's the home to all their sport and nature shows and some of their imported dramas like CSI and Blue Bloods have a broader target audience.
