Maybe its all the crap programmes there broadcast at 7pm?

Aside from Free Speech they only actually commission new shows for the 9pm and 10pm (30 mins) slots so I think there is already a case for pushing the start time back an hour to 8pm anyway. The 7pm hour on Three tends to rate less than half of whatever is shown at 8pm.

Live at the Electric Series 3 was debued in the post Family Guy 11.45pm slot.

The issue, historically, for the 7pm slot on BBC Three is that it has a zero inheritance, as the channel isn't on-air until 7pm. This means all shows have to build from a starting audience of zero.

I'm pretty sure that was more of a last ditch effort to save a (bloody awful) show with low viewing figures. It certainly wasn't commissioned with that slot in mind and they never ask indies for ideas for anything other than 9pm and 10pm.

Just one question on this topic. I am in support of keeping BBC3 as it is now and definitely be a completely backward move to remove the channel.

If, and I hope it is only if, BBC3 gets downgraded to online only, where will the overspill of prime-time sport - and other sport specials - go? Lets not forget it was less than 2 years when BBC3 was a 24 hour channel for the Olympic Games!!!

Yes I wouldn't mind if the channel started an hour later as they really do not have the content for a 7pm start as the programmes made for the 16-34 year old do tend to be specifically, in general, have to be shown after 9pm watershed!!!!

Would that not be because it isn't on air before 7? If pushed back to 8, wouldn't the 8pm hour be just as low?

Perhaps but the 8pm hour tends to be used to repeat shows from the previous week while the 7pm hour features more never ending repeats, so to speak.

Which is another point, the value they're able to get out of repeat showings will be almost wiped out. What happens to series that are shown in their entirety on iPlayer but not aired on BBC1 or 2? Will they just be up for 30 days or however long and then simply disappear? Will they randomly be put back on the site after a few months? Or will they keep them available for much long periods?

How can this channel be costing £100m yet only broadcast 90mins of new content a day? Does much of the money get wasted on Films? US cartoons?

Where is the money going?

I would imagine the EastEnders repeat costs BBC Three?

On that subject, I think it would be better to have the previous day's EastEnders at 7pm to build the audience. As suggested, this would considerably help any new programming kicking off at 7:30.

That would clash with Emmerdale on ITV. It's not going to work!

So only ONE new original programme makes it into the top 10? Family Guy could be on e4 or even BBC two at 11.20 after Newsnight, its clear people are turning into the programme....

and?

So many soap "catch-ups" clash with new episodes of soaps nowadays - it doesn't seem to bother other channels so why would it bother BBC3? And I would presume that viewing habits would determine that Emmerdale would still get the most viewers. If anything the 7pm slot is a slot which is used to series link or record once on the various pvrs!

Sorry might be my fault, I leave my tv on BBC Three when Family Guy is on at 11pm & it switches itself off at 12:30 when American Dad finishes.
