I share the same opinion most people have on Jimmy Savile, but I don't see why his name should be removed from existence. We can't change or ignore history, no matter how horrible it can be.

But then they could argue these are being aired as entertainment programmes, not historically accurate documenteries and no one wants to be reminded of Savile and his crimes during an entertainment programme. Plus as this is a commercial broadcaster they probably think it's not worth incurring the wrath of advertisers.

Fair point.

Here is a good one. It is from the episode of Blankety Blank shown earlier this evening. Watch this question and notice the answer that Spike Milligan gives...

Incidentally, as mentioned elsewhere, this "edit" has appeared on a couple of clip shows - David Walliams' Awfully Good on C4 and the Robert Webb TV mistakes thing on BBC3 - so that was an edit made in 1981, hence its clunkiness.

Just a pity that no one's repeating Tomorrow's World at the moment to complete the effect (if the relevant episodes even still exist at all).
They weren't still wiping stuff in 1979, so those episodes should still exist. They were broadcast live, but still recorded.

They still weren't properly archiving stuff though, so some stuff (can't remember what off the top of my head) still got lost.

Apparently, relatively few complete episodes of Tomorrow's World exist from before the 1980s, although a lot of the filmed items used in the shows do exist.

Challenge is now showing Treasure Hunt, listed on Freeview EPG as 'Treasure Hunt Series 1'

The EPG is actually looking much better for these new acquisitions, 3-2-1 tells us the theme of the episode and the Treasure Hunt tells us the location of the game. This is after years of them using generic descriptions for every episode of a programme. For years programmes which had more than one presenter, Family Fortunes or The Crystal Maze for example, wouldn't mention the presenter in the EPG entry because it was the same entry for all episodes.

Here is an interesting clip. I wouldn't like to be Neil Buchanan right now. He has some serious explaining to do. I believe this episode is repeated at 02:15 this morning if someone wanted to watch it and make a complaint to Ofcom.
