It seems all junctions prior to the news have no Christmas branding at all. Bizarre.

Yes. It is bizarre. I get the feeling that the powers that be within the BBC are being careful not to offend considering the recent death of Mandela. But my thinking is, that as Duncan has confirmed that there is a News safe ident with no festive music, this could be more appropriate than Kites which has an upbeat soundtrack. Even though Mandela has died, what can't be changed is the fact that this country is still preparing for Christmas. Nothing will stop that. So their decision to not use a News ident is baffling and frankly, pathetic.

I was just going to say that! It can be seen on BBC One in between programmes apart from the News because for some bizarre reason Christmas has to be interrupted for the News!

I've seen so many trailers that carry the normal endboards - I think between the news and Bargain Hunt the only trailer with Christmas branding was the generic BBC Two one, with the three or four BBC One trailers using normal endboards. Really quite a disjointed launch this year.

Oh really? Just surprising to see a Christmas Day one especially. In fact a bit surprising to see a Christmas Day prog trail at all yet.

And this is where the clock would have worked. Having said that after several years of BBC1 Christmas pres where the idents leading into the news felt too upbeat I'd rather they did this.

Excuse me?

I'm saying that it's not "old fashioned" to believe that it's too early to prepare for Christmas (because of the way Advent works) - the decision to launch when they did is entirely in line with both the Christian tradition and the secularised tradition. It annoys me when people take the "what next?" attitude, an attitude that leads to Winterval hysteria and the like.

If the idents weren't as understated as they are, then I'd get your later point about them wearing out.

Am I right in saying two of the robins get out an iPad (or other tablet device), plug in a pair of white earphones and start singing?
