Contrary to what it may appear on TV, a presenter with a 10pm-1:30am broadcast shift doesn't walk through the door at 9:59pm and b****r off out the car park at 1:31am. I'd be surprised if it wasn't anything less than a full-time job with regards to hours put in overall. A 12 hour shift wouldn't surprise me.
With regards to HS2, in all honesty Mr Simon does tend to ramble a bit and I wouldn't be surprised if the story is slightly embellished.
I remember Lisa Brash saying on air once that she had to be in at 1.30pm even though she came on air at 6pm. She said that the three hours prior to coming on air she researches and tries the products.
I was amazed on Saturday to see Peter Simon enter the Bid studio and eat some of the pizza from a Halogen Oven at just after 5pm. His shift didn't start until 10pm so he had 5 hours to prepare for a 3 and a half hour shift. I think with the compulsory purchase of his house, he might be living at Sit up.
